Landscape pattern reflected the land use methods. The land use dynamic changes of typical region were studied, and the spatial, the spatial-temporal variation characteristics of land use landscape patterns were fully recognized, the change law of the structure and function of land use system was discussed, which could provide theoretical basis and technical support to promote reasonable land use and construction of the Two-oriented Society construction.In the paper, the data sources of Liling City's remote sensing images in two years of2003and2009were selected separately, combining with the statistics, literatures, investigation, on-the-spot filed interview, sample analysis, ect to explore the laws and driving factors of the land use changes based on the technology of remote sensing and geographic information system. On the bases of this, the evaluation indices of land use function were built to seek the changes of production, ecological, and the land use function and the influence of the land use system which was casused by land use structure, economy and demographic factors, thus put forwards the reasonable suggestions about the land exploitation of Liling City.The land use structure had changed greatly during the period of2003to2009for human activities, the agricultural land's area and unused land's area were reduced year by year, but construction land's area was increased gradually. In the six years, the agricultural land's area and the unused land's area were decreased1110.52hm2,3445.99hm2respectively, but the construction land's area was increased4556.49hm2.The research area is a typical agricultural production area, and the forest land lies in the advantages of all the land types in the district. In2003and2009, the forest land accounted for54.78%and55.18%of the total land area respectively, and the forest land was the matrix of the entire landscape, which distributed in mountain and hilly slope. The paddy field accounted for25.70%and25.54%respectively, which distributed in river valley and plain region in barbarization and strip. The urban and rural residents mining land accounted for9.45%and9.80%respectively, which was similar to distribution of the paddy field. The landscape fragmentation degree was aggravated, the patches' number increased from59184in2003to66552in2009, the average patch area decreased, but the patch density increased.The function of production, ecological, social and the land use system of Liling City presented an increasing tendency from2003to2009. The land use function increased from0.3654to0.5362, and the production function increased from0.4323to0.4584. The ecological function increased from0.4038to0.6024, and the social function increased from0.4005to0.5323. In the30townships of Liling City,27townships' production function increased,28townships' social function increased too, but most of the ecological function in the30townships presented a reduction tendency,22townships' ecological function reduced, the function of land use system in27townships increased, only townships'function in3townships had different degrees of reduction.It found that there the production function had positive correlation with the region economy while the production function had not significant correlation with demographic factors. There ecological function had positive correlation with forest land, the correlation coefficient reached0.81, but it had not significant correlation with region economy. The demographic factors had negative correlation with cological function. The social function had significant correlation with land use structure, regional economic and demographic factors.In conclusion, a new perspective for the research of land use and its function were provided:the change of land use structure, landscape patterns and land use function. The perspective provided a theoretical framework for regional sustainable, and the productional function, the ecological function, the social function and the total of the land use function were quantitatively analysised. The perspective not only provided theoretical basis for the preparation of regional land use planning and structure optimizing, but also provided a practical reference for constituting land policy and normalizing land use behavior to promote rapid development of regional economy.
