Study Of Social Capital Theory With Applications

This dissertation uses the concept of capital as starting point and makes discussesphysical capital, human capital and social capital, and studies social capital in acreative way. The contributions are as follows: Firstly, the dissertation illuminates therelationships among three capitals, and proposes a theoretical view ofthree-dimensional capital space with concentration on the capital integrity, anddevelops three-dimensional capital space model, expanding the research field andenriching the social capital theory. Secondly, social network theories are posed andtrust theory and community theory are summarized and scrutinized. Themeasurements of the social capital are discussed, and the static and dynamic modelsof individual social capital,the community investment model and friend-visitinginvestment model are developed. Then, the acquisition of social capital is addressedand a discount of social capital is quantitatively analyzed, which expands the thinkingspace to study social capital theory with a quantitative method. Thirdly, thedissertation poses game trust and non-game trust. The relation between social capitaland cooperation is addressed in terms of social trust, organizational trust, politicaltrust, and trust in temporary group, etc. Fourthly, the dissertation presents a view ofshortcoming of social capital systems, formulates corresponding remedial measures.Value of individual social capital is measured. The idea of social capital insurance isproposed and insurance premium is worked out. A lot of subjects such as analyticalhierarchy process, fuzzy mathematics, probability theory, statistics, stochastic process,and actuarial study of insurance, etc are brought into research on social capitaltheories, expanding research methods of social capital. Fifthly, the dissertationproposes explanation of dual effect of social capital on management, and several newexplanations of management theory by using embedded organization of social capitaland social capital theory. A great role of social capital in realization of managerialfunctions is analyzed, and new light is shed on approach towards managementresearch. Sixthly, the dissertation addresses a great role in a social equilibratingplayed by civil society or the third section and Internet upon failure of market and ofgovernment with help of social capital theories. In addition, a great role of socialcapital in the countryside, farmer and agriculture, employment of laid-off workers,and biding for The 2008 Peking Olympic Games and for The 2010 Shanghai WorldExpo etc., is illuminated, providing a new idea of solving complex social problems.
