Urbanization is an inevitable stage in the process of industrialization, and it is of special significance when China economy is in a state of imbalance. In the past, the studies of urbanization took more attention on city planning (choose to build a large, medium or small city) and the benefits and defaults of the city scale, as well as how to build towns. With the growth of township as its research object, it will be of positive practical significance in deepening and extending the theory about studies of township by adopting the theory of economic growth and by measuring the growth of the township through Small towns will grow as research, the introduction of the theory of economic growth through economic growth and social development.This thesis is divided into five chapters besides introduction. Chapter 1, according to the economic theory of Marx and some theories from western economics such as"population-assembling drives","industry assembles","regional industrial structure upgrading"and so on, provides the theoretical support for the whole thesis, by combing the relevant theories of urbanization. Chapter 2, from the longitudinal angle, looks for the initial decisive factors which lead to the differences among small towns by studying the origin of the small town in different countries and regions. Chapter 3, from horizontal angle, analyzes the influences of resource natural possession, institution arrangement, population distribution and imbalance in resource-obtaining on the growth of township. And also goes on the quantity analysis on the relevant factors which make the main differences in the process of township growth among the eastern, middle and western areas in this chapter. Chapter 4, we gain some enlightenments after comparing a certain number of typical cases of small towns in the eastern, central and western regions. Then, based on the quantity analyze and case analysis, we take out the corresponding theoretical explanation.
