Study On The Potential And Development Strategy Of Bauxite Resources In Henan Province

Henan is abundant in bauxite resources, which mostly distributes in those inverted triangle zone around Sanmenxia-Zhengzhou-Pingdingshan, the total ore-bearing area can be 30,000 Square kilometers. Most bauxite resides in diaspore type of sedimentary deposit, of Carboniferous stratum, Benxi group, characterized by large scale, good quality (high in aluminum and silicon, low in iron), fine mining condition, and considerable reserve for open-pit mining and there're other associated components thus can be utilized jointly. Aluminum-based non-ferrous metals industry is a pillar industry in Henan, whose bauxite reserve ranked third in China, also, its alumina and electrolytic aluminum output ranked top in the country. Henan is endowed its advantage in developing aluminum industry. Hence, aluminum industry in Henan will keep on growing rapidly, with an annual consumption of bauxite reserves of about 33 million tons. Estimated from the current situation, bauxite resources can only be self-supplied for 7 years. Inadequate supply insurance has badly constrained the development of aluminum industry in Henan.By using sustainable development, mineral resources economics, and other theory.after thorough investigation of Henan's sustainable development strategy, we recommend several measures and solutions to handle with the aluminum restriction of Henan . Focusing on globe allocation of mineral resources, we analyzed opportunities and challenges as well as the necessity and feasibility faced by the "going out" policy---utilization of overseas resources; we should adopt a discipline that under the government's regulation and coordination, whereas enterprise serves as the main body, with sources and approaches of resources diversified. In specific, we should take both means of imports and overseas exploration simultaneously, to develop overseas bauxite resources in a diversified, multi-use and multi-channel way. The key areas should be countries to the south of China, such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, ect.We've done a lot of work in those prospect areas within the 7 most important metallogenic regions in Henan, and then we evaluated the mineralization potential. Furthermore, referred to exploration potential in peripheral and deep parts of the known area, according to their geological background, location of bauxite deposits, the exploration level and the feature of ore body, we classify them into 3 types, 67 metallogenic prognosis region, we determined those prediction parameters, such as the range of forecast area, ore body thickness, body weight, ore-bearing coefficient on the surface. Then we came up with estimation that within 300 meters from the top, the reserve could be expected to 992,850,000 ton (334), according to the national standard of reserve classification. Take the respective prospecting and exploration condition in consideration, we put forward 38 target areas that's most likely to be economic feasible, and gave out a estimation of economic recoverable reserves and suggestions in the next step.
