In modern Chinese ideology, the traditional cultural value conception has undergone many fateful transitions, among which the furthest-reaching influences took place with that of science conception. Western cultures, following the Opium War, entered China, and the most attractive were those modern science and techniques, with natural science as the icebreaker against Chinese cultural barriers. The now legal western sciences rocked the foundation of Confucianism, while offering Chinese a clearer and realer prospect of the cosmos. Science provided people with the powers to understand and recast nature, to enlighten rationality for fatuous dictation, and to undertake the modern culture revolution and social reformation. Meanwhile, modern ideologists indicated that science inherits independent learning values, i.e., it is also the end. Attitudes of material gaining would hinder the normal development of science, and thus some thinkers began to contemplate on science itself. In conclusion, the modern Chinese science conception involved nature, society and science itself. Against the background of western and eastern cultures, the specific conception has impacted and is impacting our culture and life.
