Research On The Speed And Quality Of Chinese Urbanization

The essential content of urbanization includes both speed and quality. The speed mainly indicates the raising of the ratio of urban population to total population, the number of cities and the city size, etc. The quality mainly indicates the growth of urban economy, the adjustment of industrial structure, the improvement of infrastructure, the development of science and technology and culture, the change of living style, the improvement of environment quality, the establishment of social security, the strengthening of urban management, etc. Chinese urbanization has been under the way of rapid development, though it is under world average level. One prominent issue is that the urbanization quality is low while the urbanization is developing fast in China. This research analyzes and judges Chinese urbanization development speed, based on the comparison of the urbanization development speed to the industrial development speed and the economic development levels, and forecasts the speed of Chinese urbanization in the future. The study establishes an appraisal indicators system and evaluation method for appraising urbanization quality, and carries on the quality appraisal of Chinese urban economy development, the social development, the infrastructure construction, the living style, the living environment, and the urban management. This research elaborates the status and roles of large cities, medium cities, small cities and small towns in the development of urbanization, analyzes the speed and quality conditions of urbanization development of large cities, medium cities, small cities and small towns in China, and proposes the main measures for enhancing the development quality of large cities, medium cities, small cities and small towns. The ultimate goal of this research is to improve Chinese urbanization development quality, while speeding up the development of Chinese urbanization, and to coordinate the speed and quality of urbanization development, thereby raising the level of Chinese urbanization development really.
