The Present Stage Of Urbanization On Urban Tourism

Since 1990's, with the development of market economy and the multiplication of economic subjects, the urbanization pattern of China is no longer bottom-up or top-down. It has turned into a more complicated multi-element motive mechanism which is made up of government, enterprises and individuals. Through the rapid urbanization, China enters another phase which Ning Yuemin named New Urbanization. During the urbanization, China's social and economic structures have changed much. These changes not only have speeded the growth of economy, also caused many urban problems.Under this background,this paper here, connected with the tourism activities, carries out a case study in Beijing, which is typical in China's urbanization and urban tourism, with the aim to understand how the social and economic changes brought by China's urbanization affects China's urban tourism industry. Through the analysis, we find that during the urbanization, some structural changes and problems have taken place in the destination, transport, supporting service and market systems of urban tourism industry. These structural changes have made a drive in urban tourism. However, they've caused the high-frequency of tourism activities, decline in positive effects, and other conflicts as well. Urban tourism in Beijing has gained a booster from the urbanization, but meanwhile, it lost the accessibility to the society.So, on the one hand, the urbanization of Beijing has created many positive effects, such as accelerating the development of urban tourism in scale, the growing urban tourism revenues, the increasing power to promote other industries and the contribution to employment etc.. On the other hand, following problems have emerged due to the high-frequency of tourism activities.1. The ability for urban tourism's bringing other industries into tourist attraction system is declining. And the same with the pulling effects.2. The area where urban tourism creates positive social and economic effects is decreasing.3. The employment effect of urban tourism is changing.4. In those densely populated area there are lots of conflicts in society, economy, culture and environment.Conclusions are made below.Because urban tourism relies on the city, those problems caused in urbanization will consequentially affect the urban tourism. So as a system, the urbanization has more effects on the industries than those specific industrial policies have on this industry. China's urbanization pattern in the present stage has brought some conflicts hard to solve. If the government shall not better the pattern, the development of urban tourism will be unsustainable.
