Knowledge is the important resource of enterprise core competence while knowledge management is the important means which promotes core competence and forms sustainable competitive advantages. However, the study on the relationship between knowledge and enterprise core competence has some unresolved problems such as:(1) How to understand the knowledge attributes of enterprise core competence?(2)What are the relation between knowledge managment and enterprise core competence ?(3) What are the effects of function mechanism of knowledge management to the formation of enterprise core competence? (4)How to implement knowledge management to foster enterprise core competence? The answers to these questions are very important to the the formation of enterprise core competence and to the successful practice of enterprise knowledge management.This paper, from the perspective of the knowledge management, based on the enterprise resource-based theory and enterprise knowledge-based theory and enterprise capacity theory, deals with connotation, characteristics of knowledge, formation mechanism of enterprise core competence, and transformation of enterprise core rigid using knowledge management. Taking enterprises of Copper industry as an example, it has done the empirical study on the relation between knowledge management and enterprise core competence. The main contents of this paper are as follows:1,This paper analyses the knowledge characteristics of core competence. By taking enterprise core competence as an enterprise capacity which takes knowledge as representing form, it explains and measures core competence from the point of view of knowledge and knowledge management. Enterprise core competence is represented as seven enterprise capacities.2,The connotation of knowledge management and the relationships between knowledge managment and core competence formation are analysed and classified in details in this thesis. From the view of processes, it divides knowledge management as four processes. They are knowledge acquisition, knowledge transfer, knowledge sharing and knowledge application. By doing so, it links the knowledge management processes and the formation of enterprise core competencies, in order to study the function mechanism of knlwledge management to the formation of enterprise core competence. It recognizes the processes of knowledge management are the processes of managering all of the both inside and ouside enterprise knowledge resources, successfully appling knowledge to the organizational work, improving efficiency of product and service quality and operating performance , finally forming enterprise core competence.3,An empirical study on the relation between knowledge management and enterprise core competence is given. Based on the research framework and assumptions proposed, this study also developped a scale for mesureing enterprise core competence and knowledge management. On the basis of a questionnaire survey of Copper enterprises and data processing by using SPSS and AMOS Structural Equation Modeling sotware, the empirical study discussed the relation between knowledge management and enterprise core competence, and proved the hypothesis of this research. And some meaningful conclusions are given in this paper.4,By selecting three listed copper enterprises, collecting their relevant data from 1999 to 2005, using DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method, this paper compared external appearance of enterprise core competence - enterprise efficiency in order to compare of enterprise core competence. Finally, it discussed how to enhance Copper enterprise's knowledge management.
