Interaction Mechanism Of Population Migration And Urban Development In The Three Gorges

The Three Gorges Project is the largest hydraulic project in the world by now. It brings tremendous comprehensive benefits, such as flood control, power generation, shipping, and water supply, so it is of significance to the social modernization construction of our country. The Three Gorges Project will cause 1.13 million persons to relocate, which is rarely in the history of resettlement of immigrants in world's history. Chinese government attaches great attention and concern to the migration work of the Three Gorges Project. State leaders have repeatedly emphasized that that the key to success or failure of the Three Gorges Project lies in whether we can resettle the immigrants properly, which relates to the success of this Project, as well as the overall situation of social stability.With the guiding ideology of"being able to move out, being able to stabilize and gradually enabling them to get rich", we have built the immigration towns, which are used to resettle the immigrants. But the development of these new emerging towns is lagging; the living standard of the residents has not been improved feasibly. These facts result in the large amount of native residents'migration towards the main city zone, so the newly-built towns are empty, which affects the migration work tremendously.According to the realistic problem our government is facing, this dissertation adopt relevant theories of Development Economics, Regional Economics, Information Economics and Urban Development Theory and Population Migration Theory to discuss the present situation and characteristics of the urban resident's migration in three gorges reservoir area comprehensively, Along the "phenomenon - causes - operating mechanism - the reality test" logical line and it also carries out an in-depth discussion on the interactive mechanism between population migration and reservoir area's urbanization development.(1)Study the history and present situation of reservoir area's urbanization. This dissertation briefly introduces the history of Three Gorges Project's migration and discusses the achievements we have made in the field of economy, infrastructure, social undertakings, and ecological construction since Chongqing became a municipality. This dissertation points out the following three difficulties arising during the process of reservoir area's urbanization: industrial carrying capacity of the city is weak; it is very difficult for the rural residents to carry out well-off construction; and it's difficult to carry out the sustainable development of eco-environment in the reservoir area.(2)Study the affect structural population migration makes on the urbanization in the Three Gorges reservoir area. It mainly discusses the negative effect the population migration makes on the development of city from the aspects of human resources emigration and population in-land migration. It also points out that the unbalanced structural migration of the population in reservoir area, i.e. a large amount of young, skillful and qualified labors move out from the reservoir area, makes the unqualified labors stay in the reservoir area, which will results in the abnormal development of urbanization in the future.(3)Study the interactive mechanism between the population migration in Three Gorges area and urbanization development. On the basis of Lewis'Dual Economic Structure Theory, Krugman's Core-Periphery Model and Population Migration Theory, our government has made the policy of"being able to move out, being able to stabilize and gradually enabling them to get rich"in accordance with the characteristics of Three Gorges area, i.e."emigrate the residents fist, and construct the urbanization later". TGPUI model is established in this dissertation, so as to discuss how the wage level, price, consumer preference, the consumption level, transport costs and compensation mechanism, and the tax policy affect the population migration and the development of urbanization in this model.(4)It makes use of theory to analyze the conclusion, and chooses proper explanatory variables to establish economics model, so as to discuss how the development of industry to affect the population migration, and the development of urbanization. By comparing the fitting effect of the econometric model (produced in this thesis) on urbanization degree in Three Gorges Reservoir Area with that of modified Logistic model, this dissertation discovers that the econometric model in this thesis has good fitting ability on special population migration an urbanization development. The population migration and urbanization process of Three Gorges Reservoir Area are significantly influenced by primary industry and the wage level of the workers in the town, so this dissertation confirms that Three Gorges Reservoir Area's urbanization should be superior to its industrialization.(5)Summarize the gain and loss of urbanization development in reservoir area, and puts forward some suggestions, and put forward the"114"development strategy aiming at revitalizing the economy of Reservoir Area. In this strategy, Wanzhou is the centre, and the development relies on the advanced industry districts in Chongqing, with infrastructure construction, characteristic industry , ecological environment, and three gorges culture as prior development trend so as to promote the rapid and healthy development of urbanization in the Three Gorges Area.
