To improve organizational performance and competitive advantage of CPA firms, CPA firms would consider strategic alliance with other firms.The objective of this study analyzes the effects of external environment,internal resource,social capital, and strategic alliance on organizational performance.The sample selection of this research is Taiwanese CPA firms.This work draws upon the recent literature concerning the industrial organization theory(external environment analysis) and resource-based theory(internal resource analysis) and,more specifically,how this may influence strategic alliance in the CPA firms.Also,this paper analyzes the moderating impact of social capital on strategic alliance from the industrial organization theory and the resource-based perspective.Finally,this article investigates whether or not strategic alliance is a source of higher organizational performance.Data are collected from CPAs of CPA firms in Taiwan via questionnaire.To clarify the relationships among these variables,structural equation modeling(SEM) is conducted to examine the model fit and three hypotheses.Finally,conclusions are presented and suggestions are made for future research.In total,500 questionnaires were distributed to conveniently sampled subjects.Of them 380 were found usable, resulting in a response rate of 76%.Descriptive statistics,reliability test,Pearson correlation analysis,simple regression analysis were used to conduct statistics analyzing.The empirical results show that(1) no significant association was identified between the external environment and the strategic alliance;(2) internal resource significantly and positively influenced the strategic alliance;(3) social capital has no moderating effect between the external environment and the strategic alliance;(4) social capital has moderating effect between the internal resource and the strategic alliance;and(5) To improve organizational performance of CPA firms,CPA firms must strategic alliance with other firms.
