Research On The Impact Of Information System Capabilities On Value Of Business Relationships And The Mediated Role Of Knowledge Sharing

The development of modern information technology and its widespread application had a profound impact on the collaboration mode among enterprises.The typical applications of information technology in enterprise,such as MIS,EDI,E-business,ERP,etc.,not only promoted the reengineering of organizational structure and business process of enterprises,but also re-shaped and integrated the relationships between enterprise and its partners.On the other hand, some typical patterns of collaboration such as virtual enterprises, supply chain etc.,are increasingly dependending on information systems.Information system has gradually become the enabler of relationships management among enterprises.The dissertation, on the view of the essential characteristics of information systems, explored the impact of information system capability on the value of business relationships and tested the mediated role of knowledge-sharing between them.The main contents of this dissertation includes the following five parts:(1) The dissertation reviewed the relevant research about information technology capability, information systems capability and the value of business relationships as well as the impact of information systems investments, information systems application and information systems capability on the business relationships;(2) The dissertation put forward three types of research hypotheses based on the literature review and pre-interview, which were variable structural hypotheses, variables discrepancy hypotheses, variables relationship hypotheses;(3)The dissertation,based on resource-based view,designed the information system capabilities scale which includes the capability of reach,range,integration,human resource and information system-enabled intangible assets.On the other hand, based on the industrial marketing,the scale of value of business relationships was also designed including exchange episode value,relationship value,network value and trust.Knowledge sharing was measured by use of the scale used before.After that,the dissertation conducted the reliability and validity testing for the above scale using the 62 valid questionnaires from the pre-investigation stage and the 163 valid questionnaires from formal investigation;(4)The dissertation,using SPSS12.0 and LISREL8.7, tested the research hypotheses above using the 163 valid questionnaires from formal investigation;(5)Finally,the dissertation gave some discussions and explanations for the research result and put forward management implications.The research results of the dissertation showed that there is a positive impact of information system capabilities on the value of business relationships.Uncovering the information system capabilities, there are positive impact relationships of integration,information system human resource,and information system-enabled intangible assets on the value of business relationships.However,there is no significant impact of the reach and range on the value of business relationships. There is a positive impact of information system capabilities on knowledge sharing.Knowledge sharing has the complete mediated role at the impact of Information system capabilities on value of business relationships(second order structural equation model).Uncovering the Information system capabilities(first order structural equation model), Knowledge sharing has the complete mediated role at the impact of information system integration on relationship value,network value and trust.Knowledge sharing has the complete mediated role at the impact of information system human resource on exchange episode value, relationship value and network value. Knowledge sharing has the partial mediated role at the impact of integration on exchange episode value,and the same as human resource on trust.The main contributions of the research is reflected in: (1) The dissertation research and design the scale of information system capabilities and value of business relationship;(2)The dissertation,using of the samples in China,validated the impact of information system capabilities and its dimensions on the value of business relationships;(3)The dissertation, using of the samples in China, validated the completed mediated role at the impact of information system capabilities on value of business relationships,and then,the dissertation validated the partial or complete mediated role at the impact of knowledge sharing on sub-information system capabilities and sub-value of business relationships.
