Research On Improvement Of Procurement And Supply Management Strategies In China's Automobile Manufactures

This dissertation was based on the investigation into automotive supply chain in China and offered some innovative strategies and methods of the procurement management and supply coordination between vehicle manufactures and suppliers. Some contribtutions were developed, such as:The dissertation found that domestic-funded vehiecle manufacures was lagging behind in suppliers system, procurement cost management and supply process management. They had not maintained stable relationships with major suppliers and often set a procurement price by the quotes competition among suppliers. Domestic-funded vehiecle manufacures maintained weak links with suppliers in product development process, compared with joint ventures. Domestic-funded suppliers faced many challedges when the vehiecle replaced the older generations.There were two different supplier system-European and American, as well as Japanese and Korean in the international automotive industry, the latter of which maintained an intimate relationship with suppliers by capital ties and usually adopted one sourcing mode. Through modeling analysis, the dissertation found that one sourcing strategy is possibly the optimum where suppliers had different product costs.For the challenge of supplier system, the dissertation found that the domestic-funded vehicle manufacture should reduce the self-making ratio and cultivate modular and systematic suppliers. It is found that the decisions on the cultivation of strategic supplier should be made based on their production scale, and a corresponding model was offered. For the management of procurement cost,vehiecle manufactures could adopt collaborative targeting-costing supply chain management methods through the sharing of costs information, instructing and supporting supplier, and jointly dealing with rise in price with suppliers. For the challenge of operations management and supply coordination, the dissertation offered a strategy of hybrid postponement. Vehiecle manufacturers could locate CODP in the painted vehiecle bodies to cope with the uncertaintis. For relatively uncertain demands, it is suggested that CODP is located in the downstream of supply chain, while relatively stable demand located in the frontstream of supply chain. Finally, this dissertation made a case study on the implementation of the supply chain target-costing approach and the supply coordination process in a domestic-funded auto enterprise.
