The resource-based view (RBV) has been employed in many research fields since it indicates that the internal key resources should be accompanied with strong organization-related, non-transferable and non-duplicated characteristics. Therefore, according to RBV, the key resources are not those which are directly purchased on the market, but the methods and process in which an enterprise are allocating and consuming the materials, and the capability which are accumulated in the manufacturing process. This thesis analyzes the manufacturing strategy based on the theory of RBV. This thesis proposes that the key resources are the combination of method, technology, knowledge and capability in the manufacturing process, which is named as manufacturing capability.This paper explains resource and manufacturing capability and their meanings respectively, discusses the transformation process from resources into manufacturing capability and the probable results and thus proposes the competitive strategy model based on resources view. Meanwhile, this paper discusses the influences of manufacturing decisions on the process of transformation from resources into capability. It is argued that there exists a cross influence between resources and manufacturing decisions, i.e. manufacturing decisions are based on current resources and actions on how resources are allocated and used, which further affects on the results of manufacturing capability. This process makes purchased resources non-transferralbe and organization-reliable. The conceptual model is made based on the hypothese.This thesis employs International Manufacturing Strategy Surveyâ…£(IMSSâ…£) database and structural equation modeling (SEM) to estimate the hypothesized model. The final model is combined by measurement models and the path model. After testing hypothesis precondition and offense assessment, the estimation results are generated in AMOS software. Then the thesis compares the evaluation criteria of SEM and analyzes the results.It is found that resource has significant influences on the five components of manufacturing capabilities, including quality, cost, flexibility, delivery and innovation. Further, there exist strong significant cross relationships between structural decision, infrastructural decision, integration decision and resources and manufacturing capability is influenced by manufacturing decisions. This indicates that resources are the basis of decision which in reverse affects on the obtaining and using process. This process makes reouces and capability with specific organization characterisitics. The limitation of this paper is discussed.Finally, this thesis compares the Chinese sample with the total and the American sample in IMSSâ…£. Some differences are analyzed and the conclusion is drawn that Chinese sample is a little better than the globe, but lag after American sample in many aspects. Further, this thesis puts forward some advices for Chinese manufacturing enterprises in constructing manufacturing capability.
