As deepening the reform of urban and rural economic system and promoting the Chinese modernization process, the rural economy had obtained the fast development in hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China, and the construction modes of the rural residences had been changed deeply. The modern residence of the brick structure had replaced the traditional residence of the civil structure gradually, and it had become the main development trend of the rural residence. But with this trend, a lot of problems had been appeared which included the same pattern, the poor quality, the high energy consumption, the serious pollution, and the loss of the regional architecture style and culture. The construction modes of the rural traditional residence had been lost which contained the passive green ecological technology. The evolution of the rural residence in the mountain area had deviated from the normal and reasonable development track gradually.For the problems, which could not be overcome through the analysis of function and form of architectural research, these could not be solved through technical improvement of the partial solution for a large number of residences. These problems would need to be studied from the suitable ecological sustainable construction modes which would be suitable for the local climate conditions and economic tolerant level, in order to find the key strategies for the design of the rural residence on ecology in this area and the solution of the update modes. Then, through the feedback adjustment with construction of the actual examples with the mode, these key strategies and modes would provide the guidance and reference for the rural residential ecological construction in hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China.In the paper, the rural residences had been taken as the research objects. Through the analysis of factors, which had affected the construction including the mountain climate, the geographical environment, and the social environment, it would define the regional geographical range of the research objects and characteristics of the mainly influential factors.Starting from the analysis of the statuses of the existing residences, the research had carried out the field surveys and quantitative tests for in the mountain areas of the different provinces, and had performed the quantitative analysis for the indoor environment of the existing typical rural residences with the different local materials by the building energy consumption software. Then, the climatic adaptive performances of these materials were analyzed in the environmental temperatures of the different seasons.Through the analysis of the mainly influential factors of the residential evolution, the research had found the reasons on the developmental dilemma of the existing rural residential evolution systematically. By the climate analysis software, the psychrometric charts and passive strategies had been analyzed with the hourly meteorological data of the typical meteorological year for the typical areas(a total of 10 areas) of the hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China, and the passive strategies had been determined. Then, the suitable ecological sustainable construction measures had been put forward for the different climatic regions.Through the analysis of the variable dimensions on the rural residences in hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China, the general formula for the shape coefficient of the common residence had been determined in order to save the energy consumption of the residence. Then, the suitable residential sizes, which conformed to the standard, had been determined with the climatic characteristics of the provinces.Around the three themes which were the ecological character, regionality, and adaptability, the suitable ecological sustainable optimizational strategies for the rural residences in hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China had been proposed, through the analysis of the three aspects which included form of architectural space, construction of adaptation to climate, using of renewable resources, and regional cultural heritage.In the paper, the common key issues of the development of the rural residences had been taken as the research objects in this region. Then, the theories and methods of the suitable ecological sustainable construction modes for the hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China had been established, which included courtyard space, envelope structure, continuation of traditional local culture, and resource utilization modes.Through the rural ecological sustainable residential demonstration projects in the regions of the Sichuan province and southern Shaanxi province, the feasibility of the suitable ecological sustainable construction modes were validated in the area. The results showed that the modes, which took the fewer resources and the low construction cost, not only created a better indoor living environment, but also had the good practicability and operability. It also had the direct guidance for the creation of the ecological sustainable rural residences with the rich regional characteristics.Based on the study of the ecological development of rural residential construction for the technical aspects of the suitable ecological sustainable construction, this thesis established the modes of the suitable ecological sustainable construction, in accordance with the mountain environment of the hot-humid and cold-wet mountain area in western of China, identified the development routes of technology in the environment, resources and economy, and played a positive role to enrich and perfect the research and practice of the rural residential theory for the western.
