As a reflection of the dynamic interaction relationship between human and natural, the concept of "culture landscape" originates from cultural geography study area. The World Heritage Committee introduced it as a heritage objects into the world heritage areas in 1992, stressing the cultural value of natural landscape object. As a new heritage objects, "culture landscape" breaking the traditional limitation of dualism epistemology about "nature-humanism", "tangible-intangible" and "protection-development", emphasis thinking and cognizing the landscape object with a comprehensive, overall, dynamic way. This thesis is aimed at using the perspective of "culture landscape", analyzing the space and cultural relationship of historical towns, so as to reply the current problems of the huge impact on regional space and cultural characteristics under the rapid urbanization background. The thesis wishes to analyze the southwest mountainous history towns in a complex and dynamic way, and exploring an innovative protection method for those towns. In order to realize the main purpose of the full text, this thesis put forward three specific objectives from theory research, basic research and applied research plate. They are: "constructing an analyzing framework of historic towns under the perspective of cultural landscape", "refining the evolution laws and dynamic mechanism of the typical cultures and landscapes in southwest mountainous historic towns", "put up an innovative method for historic towns’ protection and renewal". At last, around the objectives beyond, the thesis formed the final three innovation points. The southwest mountainous towns the thesis refers to are mainly about the historic towns in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces and direct built in rugged mountainous environments or constructed in hilly regions take the mountainous environment as the background. In the study, I did field investigation on 45 historic towns and villages based on the geographical range, and took 13 typical cases such as Langzhong, Xianshi, Zigong, Luocheng, Ciqikou, Xituo, Dali, Lijiang, Zhengyuan, Nuodeng, Qingyan, Zhaoxing for detail discussion. From the perspective of "culture landscape", those towns resemble one kind of "organic evolution landscape ". As historical towns, they have the dual attributes of "material" and "culture"; as mountainous towns, they present the fusion characteristics of "artificial" and "natural"; as evolution towns, villages and towns represent different development periods of the historic town in the river of time. The main part of the thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is for putting out the research topics. The second chapter is a summary of the theoretical background and the present problems. The third chapter is to construct the theoretical framework of the thesis. The fourth chapter is for combing with the regional background and picking up the typical towns for study. The fifth and sixth chapters are basic researches of the southwest mountainous historic towns. Finally, the seventh chapter is a kind of practical application theory based on the studies beyond.Through all studies, this thesis constructed a "cultural-space-time" research framework for historical town studies as a theoretical innovation. Then, using this method, the thesis analyzed typical towns’ landscape characteristics and summarized the gathering, dispersing, organizing and degeneration laws in their each evolution periods. Meanwhile, this thesis summarized the silent, leading, traction, infiltration dynamic mechanism of living, function, history, spirit cultures act on the landscapes of towns. Finally, based on the basic research above, the thesis putted up a landscape- culture collaborative evolution preservation strategies, strengthened the practical significance of the basic research.
