Urban underground space is the important part and future promising direction for urban space, which is the important carrier for the realizing and exertion of future urban functions. The thorough and systemic research on the basic law and internal mechanism of urban underground space development are absence in the current urban underground planning theory and technical method system which have not formed a scientific and systemic theory system. The planning theory and methods is an important theoretical basis for the development of urban underground space which should be scientific, orderly and efficient; consequently comprehensive and systemic research on the the planning theory and methods which based on discussion of the evolution mechanisms for urban underground space system is one of the major issues in the urban underground space development.In this dissertation, urban underground space in modern and contemporary times are taken as the research object. The location distribution mechanisms and the function coupling mechanism for system evolution of urban underground space are researched systematically and deeply, by means of case analysis, theoretical derivation, model simulation, deductive logic and example verification etc. And the planning idea of function coupling for urban underground space is advanced, the system of the urban underground space plan and system framework of each kind plan are structured, in which the function coupling planning is one of major planning contents, the function coupling evaluation to the scheme becomes planning core measure. Three key technologies of urban underground space planning are studied deeply and sloved, which include plan classification criterion, planning control index and scheme evaluation system, the theory and method of urban underground space planning are established. The main works and conclusions can be given as follows:(1) The achievement and progress of research on the distribution mechanism and evolution mechanism are summarized, which is the internal mechanism of system development and evolution in time and space. A comprehensive review is conducted on the available literatures on planning and design theory and its key technologys of urban underground space. The problems in the literatures studies are discussed.(2) The Features and laws of distribution and location for urban underground space system are revealed. The variables of rnderground space are draw into the model of mono-centric city, and the development model and growth model for urban underground space are structured. The analysis shows:the formating conditions and the overall income of underground space development are closely related with these factors such as land rent, location, time, cost and etc; and the development intensity of underground space are closely related with these factors such as land prices, interest rates, building location, building production function, the average price and etc.(3) The evolution mechanism of urban underground space system is studied profoundly and thoroughly. The self organizing system properties of urban underground space system are demonstrated. The evolution mechanism of urban underground space system is defined which intitule function coupling mechanism. The competition and cooperation model for function coupling mechanism is established to derive, analyse, simulate and demonstrate the development and evolution of urban underground space system.(4) The function coupling ideology for urban underground space planning is advanced. The function coupling theory for urban underground space planning is defined. The system of the urban underground space plan is structured, in which the function coupling planning is one of major planning contents, the function coupling evaluation to the scheme becomes planning core measure.(5) The urban underground space planning classification criterion include 7 chief categories and 25 mini-categories is put forward for the first time. And the planning control index system of urban underground space is established which include 9 land parcel indexes and 5 spatial indexes.(6) The scheme function coupling evaluation system of urban underground space system is established, in which different levels planning requirements are considered, the degree of system function coupling is taken as the evaluation target. In this scheme evaluation system, an evaluation index system is designed which included 3 one-level indexes,8 two-level indexes,21 general plan underlayer indexes and 19 detailed plan underlayer indexes. The index weight comprehensive assignment method by subjective and objective are put into using which combined AHP and entropy method.(7) At the end of the dissertation, the planning theory and its technology and methods system are applied to the urban underground space plan example in Wuxi city. In the general urban underground space plan, the current situation and development trend of underground space system in Wuxi City are analyzied, the implementation status planning objectives are commented, the counter- measure and suggestion for future development are put forward. In the detailed urban underground space plan, the system function coupling degree is evaluated for each detailed plan cases in Wuxi city which prove the validity of function coupling evaluation system.
