Locust is a fulminant, migratory, destructive pest that severely threatens the agricultural production in China. However, because of special natural conditions of China, some new technologies for locust control are not particable and widely used. To solve these problems, we developed new formulation of biocontrol agent, information technology in locust control, and new extension model. After application, we have obtained obvious economic, social and ecological benefits.Ⅰ. The product development of new formulation of Nosema locustaeTo make the biocontrol agent, Nosema locustae more practicable, we designed a new formulation for N. locustae, water based formulation. The bioassays in both laboratory and field verified that the gradients of the new formulation had no negative effect on survival and pathogenicity of N. locustae. The experiment on storage at the room temperature indicated that this formulation could prolong the spores of N. locuatae from weeks to2years. The field trial with this formulation with aircraft showed that this formulation is easier to spray by aircraft than previous formulation. This new formulation was obtained the pesticide registration certificate of China after many parameters had been tested.Ⅱ. Design and application of the handheld machine for investigation and monitoring of locustThrough in-depth analysis of the problems facing the locust monitoring work, we design and development handheld machine for the investigation and monitoring of locust. Integrated with global positioning system, modern communication technology and locust information acquisition software, the device can implement accurate positioning, fast and accurate location of locust occurrence area and get the occurrence degree. The handheld machine improves the locust survey techniques and it has very significant input for locust control information.Ⅲ. Integration and application of technologies for biological control of locust with regional characteristicsAccording to features of different locust breeding regions, the green control technologies, such as new biological pesticide, locust control information system were integrated into previous local control systems and formed six new models with local characteristics. They were Bohai Gulf locust green control technology model, Inner Mongolian Crop-Grassland grasshoppers and locust green control technology model, North Regional of Xinjiang locust green control technology model and Ganzi regional Tibetan locusts green control mode.Ⅳ. New extension model and its applicationA new extension model for green control of locusts and grasshoppers in China was established based on development of new biocontrol agent, information technology and their commercialization. This new extension consists of several partners, such as researchers, governs, manufactures and demonstrators. All of the partners performed their tasks, such as conducted research project, demonstration, lectures. Its obvious characters are highly efficient, economic, and fast.V. The extension of new technology and economic impactSince2010, the new formulation for N.locustae was applied to875thousand MU with80%of control to locust; the handheld machine was applied to100million MU with30%of improvement of monitoring work. After calculation, economic savings in demonstration area is about230million yuan.
