Maize is one of the most important food crops in China, but the mechanization level of maize production is still relatively low, especially in corn harvesting. Although there are many corn harvesting machine manufacturers in our country at present, mature models are still insufficient. Therefore, it has became a major technical issue for the research of enterprises, universities and research institutes on how to develop a series of multifunctional corn harvesters that can meet our national conditions. Taking self-propelled corn harvester as the research object, this thesis focuses on the systematic study of its overall structure layout optimization and virtual validation issues, aimed to provide a reference for improving the design level and product quality of corn harvesters. The main research contents are as follows:(1) On the basis of referring to large number of documents and in-depth research, the development trends, key technologies and research methods of current domestic and foreign corn harvesters were analyzed. Also the development status of layout issues and virtual design technology at home and abroad was thoroughly understood, and ultimately the main research contents and technical route of this article were determined.(2) According to the models on the market at home and abroad, the whole structure of self-propelled corn harvester was analyzed, combined with relevant design books, documents, standards, etc. At the same time, the types, characteristics and factors affecting operating performance of the key components and systems were summarized, the whole machine power calculation method and power transmission route was proposed, and the whole machine layout pattern and the main structure design parameters were analyzed which could provide a basis for the overall design of self-propelled corn harvester.(3) Based on the structural features of self-propelled corn harvester and the research need of this paper, the longitudinal dynamic model and handling stability dynamic model of self-propelled corn harvester were constructed. Meanwhile, the calculation method of the center of gravity, the passing ability and stability of self-propelled corn harvester was analyzed, to conduct whole machine performance analysis and provide the theoretical basis for the overall design of self-propelled corn harvester.(4) On the basis of analyzing the whole machine layout pattern, geometric mechanism and performance, the principles and methods of building the mathematical optimization model of three dimensional layout design of self-propelled corn harvester structure was researched. Using multi-target method, the structure layout of the whole machine was established. And the genetic algorithm was used to solve the layout optimization problem of self-propelled corn harvester overall structure.(5) Based on the software of VC++, Pro/E, and the virtual reality software EON, the system for the overall structure layout design and virtual verification of self-propelled corn harvester was constructed. And the method for interoperating of parts and components in virtual environment was studied, in order to achieve the system functions of parametric design, overall structure layout optimization and scheme adjustment in the virtual reality environment etc. It provided a fast, intelligent and parametric design platform for the overall design of self-propelled corn harvester, thereby shortening product development time, reducing costs and improving product quality.
