ObjectivesTo prove the fact of the specific correlation between Hegu(LI4) and face,we used EMG detection, pain threshold detection and fluorospectrophotometry method and observed the effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) on the facial muscular movement of the rhesuses, the facial sensory reception and the salivary glands function of the healthy people by "for the face and mouth,Hegu(LI4) controls"as a guide to explore the biological basis of specific correlation between meridians and the body surface and to rich the scientific content of specificity of meiridians and acupoints effect.Method1.The effect of acupuncturing different acupoints area of the rhesuses on the EMG of the facial muscles:We divided the rhesuses into Hegu(LI4) area,Houxi(SI3) area and Waiguan(SJ5) area groups using the random number table. We acupunctured respectively Hegu(LI4) area,Houxi(S13) area and Waiguan(SJ5) area of the rhesuses under the physiological condition and general or local anesthesia conditions to observe and record the changes of the EMG of the frontal muscles.the zygomatic muscles and the orbicular muscles of mouth in order to compare the effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area,Houxi(SI3) area and Waiguan (SJ5) area of the rhesuses on the EMG of the face and mouth.2. The effect of acupuncturing different acupoints of the healthy people on the facial sensation and the function of salivary glands:We randomly divided the healthy people into Hegu(L14),Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) groups using SPSS. We acupunctured respectively Hegu(LI4),Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) of the healthy people to observe the changes of the facial pain threshold using the potassium-ion density dolorimeter and detect the changes of the saliva alpha-amylase activity using fluorospectrophotometry in order to compare the effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4),Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) of the healthy people on the facial pain threshold and the saliva alpha-amylase activity. Resultsl. The effect of acupuncturing respectively different acupoints area of the rhesuses on the EMG of the facial muscles under the physiological condition and local or general anesthesia conditions:①The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the frontal muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the physiological condition (p<0.05). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the zygomatic muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the physiological condition (p<0.01). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the frequency, area and incubation period changing rate of the orbicular muscles of mouth of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the physiological condition (p<0.05).The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the EMG of the the face and mouth were stronger than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area under the physiological condition:The EMG on the frequency, peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the frontal muscles and the orbicular muscles of mouth of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.05); The EMG on the frequency, peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the zygomatic muscles of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.01).②The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak.area and incubation period changing rate of the frontal muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the general anesthesia condition (p<0.01). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak.area and incubation period changing rate of the zygomatic muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the general anesthesia condition (p<0.05). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the frequency, peak and area changing rate of the orbicular muscles of mouth of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the general anesthesia condition(p<0.05).The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the EMG of the face and mouth were stronger than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area under the general anesthesia condition:The EMG on the frequency, peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the frontal muscles of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.01); The EMG on the peak.area and incubation period changing rate of the zygomatic muscles and the orbicular muscles of mouth of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.01).③The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak and area changing rate of the frontal muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the local anesthesia condition (p<0.05). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the peak and area changing rate of the zygomatic muscles of the rhesuses showed significant deviation under the local anesthesia condition(p<0.01).The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the EMG of the the face and mouth were stronger than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area under the local anesthesia condition:The EMG on the peak, area and incubation period changing rate of the frontal muscles of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.05); The EMG on the peak and area changing rate of the zygomatic muscles of the rhesuses acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area were higher than the EMG acupuncturing Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) area (p<0.05).2. The effect of acupuncturing different acupoints of the healthy people on the facial sensation:The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) on the facial pain threshold changing rate of the mandibular area of the healthy people showed significant deviation (p<0.05). The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) comparing with Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) on the facial pain threshold changing rate of the frontal region, the buccal region and the mandibular area of the healthy people showed significant deviation (p<0.05).3. The effect of acupuncturing different acupoints of the healthy people on the function of salivary glands:The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) comparing with Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5) on the saliva alpha-amylase activity changing rate of the healthy people showed significant deviation (p<0.05). Conclusions1. The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area on the range and the degree of the impact of the facial muscles of the rhesuses are stronger than Houxi(SI3) area and Waiguan(SJ5) area under the physiological and the general anesthesia conditions. These results suggest that there is relative specificity between Hegu(LI4) area and the facial muscular movement of the rhesuses.2. The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) area are weakened on the EMG of the facial muscles of the rhesuses under the local anesthesia condition. These results suggest that the reception of peripheral sensory nerves are important biological basis between Hegu(LI4) area and the face and mouth.3. The effect of acupuncturing Hegu(LI4) on the degree of the impact of the facial pain threshold and the saliva alpha-amylase activity of the healthy people are stronger than Houxi(SI3) and Waiguan(SJ5). These results suggest that there is relative specificity between Hegu(LI4) and the facial sensation and the salivary glands function of the healthy people.
