| ObjectiveThe core of the thesis is on the Herbalists’ Hiemal life-preservation concepts and techniques of all dynasties. Historical documents regarding Hiemal life-preservation has been systematically arranged and will be used as a reference for this thesis.Methods①The literature research method:Ancient and modern literature related to Hiemal life-preservation is found through TCM ancient books and various modern databases.②Data gathering and summarization method:It is a method that gathers and summarizes data from all ancient and modern literature of Hiemal life-preservation.③Survey method:A survey is conducted in Hong Kong to investigate Hong Kong people’s knowledge and preference for Hiemal life-preservation.Results①The result of this thesis is gathered and organized into three parts:a) the history of Hiemal life-preservation b) the characteristics of Hiemal life-preservation c) the classification of Hiemal life-preservation.②The Hiemal life-preservation survey in Hong Kong is conducted, with280collected data and268valid data.ConclusionIn essence, the difference and similarities between modern literature and ancient literature of Hiemal life-preservation can be known by searching and organizing literature about Hiemal life-preservation. All literature and doctors believe that the concept of Hiemal life-preservation primarily focuses on the kidney nourishment (the kidney refers to the TCM kidney).The result from the survey states that life preservation through season, diet, Chinese herbs and meridian is highly recognized Hong Kong people. However, Hong Kong people are unable to identify other types of Hiemal life-preservation, hence Hong Kong people needs education about Hiemal life-preservation in the future. |
