The object of this thesis is the two others of the oversea Chinese literature by the new chinese immigrants in Australia. The so-called new Chinese immigrants in Australia are immigrants from Chinese Mainland during 1980s to 1990s. We regard the literature works that new Chinese immigrants write in Chinese as Australian new Chinese immigrants’literature. For new Chinese immigrants,in a sense, Australia is an "other" when they arrived in Australia with Chinese cultural effect. However, China has been an other when they look back and reflect it with Australian feeling or Australian cultural effect. What this thesis studies is the two others image constructed in the texts by the new Chinese writers in Australia, and the thesis tries to find the "self’and "self-image" that the new Chinese immigrants of Australia costructed through analyzing the two others and two others image. The theory of this thesis is based on the study of the imagology of comparative literature and it includs four chapters as follows:The first chapter basically analyzes constructed other image of Australia, from three aspects which are geography, customs and culture system in Australia. As the analysis of the imagination of most writers, Australia has a pure natural landscape, unsophisticated customs and cultural diversity of the social collective imagines. This positive collective imagination represents identity of Australian Chinese writers for Australian culture and an understanding of "self" in some sense. The second chapter basically analyzes constructed other image of China, from four aspects which are life scenes, cultural traditions, country complex and modern factors about China. In the most writer’s imagination and memory, China has lively life scenes, long ancient cultural traditions, subtle country complex and colorful modern factors lacked in Australia. The third chapter basically is foucsed on the image compared between China and Australia in the Chinese literature of new chinese immigrants in Australia. We try to analyze and compare from four aspects which are education mode, family ethics, social morals and lifestyle focused by new Chinese writers. This purpose is not the comparison of good or bad between different cultures, but the cultural differences between China and Australia constructed by the new immigrants writers and their attitudes to the cultural differences. This purpose expresses what self image and values. The fourth chapter is to alayze the relationship among the Australia’s other image, the China’s and new immigrants’self-image. Through the analysis of the two others,we think that the identity of "self’and "self-image" is a process of contiueous denying and creating. Nowadays, for new Chinese immigrants in Australia, the identity is multiple and relative, but not fixed and natural. The new Chinese writers in Australia constructed self-renewable identity form four aspects, those are selectively identifying western culture, thinking and reflecting the traditional Chinese culture, constructing "the third cultural space" and the consciousness of the citizens in the world based on the melting of the two cultures.
