Differentiation And Analysis On The On Singing

On Singing has been regarded as the first specialized writing of vocal theory in ancient China. After its earliest known print and publish in Yuan dynasty, On Singing has always been quoted.it has been getting more attention since the appearance of Exegesis on On Singing by Mr. Zhou Yibai in the early1960s. Entering21st century, with the continuous growth of research team, the study of On Singing has been recognized as special research project at the national, ministerial and regional universities and institutions. The in-depth research of On Singing not only shows its important position in China’s singing history, but also makes people more interested in the details of its contents.Discrimination of the source text of the On Singing is the center contents of this thesis. This thesis is divided into seven chapters.Chapter one briefly introduces the significance of the On Singing in the history of singing theory, analyzes the inevitability that On Singing was originated in Yuan Dynasty, and puts forward the emphasis and research method of this thesis upon the summarization of the studying on the On Singing. Chapter two introduces versions, research situation, framework and essentials of On Singing.Chapter three to Chapter six are the centre contents of this thesis, which differentiate and analyze the twelve obscure paragraphs of On Singing relating to singing skills and the others. Basing on the principle of the full-text consistent, this thesis goes back to the source text to find out some information ignored by the previous researchers and looks into the meanings of each paragraph and sentence to figure out the direct relationship between terminology in On Singing and vocal performance.Chapter seven briefly introduces and analyzes the rest parts of On Singing that has not been differentiated and analyzed in this thesis. Meanwhile, some questions and opinions occurred to author during the study are also included in this chapter.On Singing was written by Yannan Zhian on the basis of learning the previous and that time singing practice, which came up with various kinds of singing skills and matters need attention, it is the summary of singing practical experience. The study and analysis of these contents need to base on singing practice. This thesis tries to analyze and understand the contents of On Singing on the basis of modern singing methods, skills and practice, and interpret the source text through multi-aspect and multi-angle discrimination.Based on textual research, author believes that On Singing was a summarization of singing experience by a commoner scholar. Such presumption makes us further approach to original appearance of On Singing, stick to singing experience, and avoid the probable misapprehend. This thesis offers some opinions and explanations different with previous researchers, author hopes this thesis will deepen the understanding of On Singing, and enhance academia’s attention, discussion and research on On Singing.
