In the Art history study of PRC, broader understanding of grassroots artwork contains the artworks of proletariat&peasant and propaganda artworks made by professional artist. These two types of works are at the periphery of the field, even though some researchers still have been especially keen to focus on the peasant painting during ’the great leap forward’, studied the exaggerate style of the paintings. But there is no doubt that peasant-proletariat&artist dual identities issue makes the study situation more complicated. Under the political view of PRC, peasant-proletariat is the pioneer of Communism; they have the most powerful political discourse, holding the standard of creation and criticism. On the other side, it is impossible that after art training peasant-proletariat artists could transfer into professional artist, they have to stay in amateur circle.Chapter one as the preface of the thesis, it is in order to make a literature review, meanwhile, to present the difficulties which will be confronted. In chapter two, the evolution of the peasant-proletariat art system is the main topic. As the ’pupils’of C.C.C.P, the Kuomintang and Chinese Communist Party both had tried to reform the grass-root society, and obviously Chinese Communist Party took the advanced place at the last. The later one built a strong propaganda organization based on Mass Art Centers, Cultural Stations and Township Cultural Centers after1949.In chapter three, during the political storm in1950s’, the propaganda played a very important role. During the political storm, peasant and proletariat took themselves as the the masters of the country, came along with the peasant-proletariat artistic creation conception. In chapter four, the topic is about the collapse of the "’old China" and construction of "new China" in peasant-proletariat art. In this type of creation,’Utopian" is the keynote, it is mean to help the people abandon the ’old China’.It is difficult to make a panoramic writing of the peasant-proletariat art in1950s because of the tremendous amount of historical materials. In this thesis, author wished to make a primary picture of the peasant-proletariat art based on Guangdong and Hunan provinces.
