Post-modern art, despite being labeled the "rebel" tag, its speciality of "anti-tradition","anti-elitist", and its spirit of continuously explore and constantly trying, are the real meaning which hidden behind the seemingly absurd behavior. For more than half a century, Post-modern concept have been accepted gradually by many artists and designers, and the design activity is gradually becoming a kind of creative art activity.The object of this research, Graffiti, as an edge culture of postmodern, catalyzed by Pop Art, Dada Art and Abstract Expression, developing as an unique, profound, creative art form. Although have suffered many unfair treatment, graffiti still maintained a forward attitude, appearing in many areas of life. The art culture of lower-class which represented by graffiti, and the adaptability and flexibility which can be find in the development process of graffiti, reflect the mutual mix of Public art, subculture exactly, with Elite art. Meanwhile, its original creativity and expressive force just fit for the Perceptual demands of modern design art. Like "Art brut", a kind of art created by Jean Dubuffet, paying attention to the artistic expression of all kinds of edge personage, such as mental patient, prisoner and so on, graffiti is like a window, let’s see the art demands and artistic visions of people from different class and backgrounds.In the writing process of this paper, the author have visited many cities at home and abroad which are full of Graffiti, such as Rome, Hong Kong, Peking, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, etc. And found that a lot of Chinese don’t understand graffiti, even don’t know what it is; while, a big part of foreigner accustomed to the presence of graffiti. Although someone look down on it, they don’t think it should be killed out of a free and open concept. The author hopes that through the point of view of this paper, people can get further understanding of graffiti, which in turn bring more and broader spaces for this post-modern visual art.In the article, philosophy, sociology, semeiology of post-modern are the pointcuts, which used for analysis and interpretation for the philosophy background, sociology context, semiotics semantic, art modal and characteristics, cross-over utilization, space intervention, etc. And made some attempts as follow:1. Using the theories of the postmodern, concluding Deconstruction theory of Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, Perspectivism theory of, and Museum Skepticism to fully prove the rationality of the existence of graffiti.2. With the "Sociology of deviance" of Robert King Merton, the author analyzed the rebel behavior of graffiti, digging the root causes of graffiti from the level of social structure.3. From the point of view of group culture, the paper discussed the interaction, exchange and contact in the social groups for graffiti, further revealing the culture causes of graffiti.4. According to the triple nature of "Self", mainly explored the formation of "Social self" of graffiti. 5. Basing on the Three-element theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, analyzed some typical symbol signs of several graffiti master, concluding the sign, interpretant and object.6. Under the influence of Pierre Bourdieu’s "Field theory", the paper put forward the concepts of "Space field" and "Art field" of graffiti, and elaborated the space art characteristics of graffiti by classification.
