| Both Science and religion are two kinds of knowledge and cultural phenomenon in the human society. There is not only a certain degree of difference, but also there is a certain degree of commonality. Determine differences means different social functions between the twos, and commonality of the two provides an opportunity for dialogue and communication. The dissertation mainly focuses on the topic of "studies on western theories of the relationship between Science and Religion" and this thesis is systematically divided into four chapters to discuss the theme. In the chapterl, we have obtained a universal character of science and religion through a brief description and analysis of the basic definition. The general concept of science and religion is the premise and foundation to understand and demonstrate the relationship between the both.In the chapter2, first of all, we have reviewed the theories between science and religion, followed by are introduction of the theory on conflict, the theory on irrelevance, the theory on relevance and the theory on integration, and we have an detailed analysis of these views.Secondly, we have pointed out certain inadequate aspects of argumentation. Finally, anglicizing and comparing the four theories, we believe that the theory on relevance and the theory on integration are not only theoretical, but also profound. Meanwhile, it is our basic views on the subject. In the chapter3, we focus on the subject of scientists’conceptual understanding of science and religion, as well as scientific research and religion belief, such as Einstein, Collins, and Porkinhourn, then we discussed the scientists how to view and handle the relationship between science and religion. Through their different perspectives on science and religion, we have grasped the position and attitude on the relationship.we have clearly seen that science and religion can be organically combined in the spirit world and in the real life. The three scientists provide us that the experience and methods of handling the relationship, so we are able to understand and deal with it rationally. Therefore, the discussion on the relationship between science and religion in this chapter strongly supports the argument on the chapter2.In the chapter4, we focus on the theories on the relationship between science and religion of the Western academe in Contemporary. Cosmology is typically introduced. First, we systematically introduce scientific cosmology, including Whitehead’s philosophy of cosmology and Moltmann’s theological cosmology, and secondly, there are analysis and evaluation on the three cosmologies. We have obtained theoretical method to treat the relationship between science and religion from the view of cosmology. In the conclusion, after the discussion on the western theories, we believe that relationship between science and religion is "symbiosis and promotion"," complementation and Compatibility" and we insist that science and religion are promoted and complemented each other, and the two coexist together. In this dissertation, we have systematically discussed the theme through the logical structure on the above arrangements. We not only study of the theories and views between science and religion, but also we have obtained experiences about how to treat relationship in reality. |
