The content of this English-Chinese translation practice is selected from Brynley Evans' The Fires of Creation:A Review of the Relationship between Science and Religion, which mainly describes the development of religion from the primitive origin of religion to the modern trend of that. The main topic of The Fires of Creation is the development of the relationship between religion and science, which was from binary opposition to harmonious relationship. The theme that the author conveys is to enable everyone to correctly understand religion and the relationship between religion and science, which is also one of the main reasons that the translator chose this book to translate. The first three chapters and the fourteenth chapter of the source text were selected by the translator as the content of English-Chinese translation practice. The difficulties encountered in the process of the translation and the countermeasures and solutions to the difficulties were analyzed on the basis of the framework of Professor Li Changshuan's “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”.Analysis of difficulties in translation encountered in the text and description of the corresponding solutions made the translator's comprehension to the content of the source text deepened and intensified.Among the selected cases, the translator analyzed translation methods of religious words or phrases, complex sentences and inverted sentences with the correspondent application of literal translation, annotation, division and recasting by the translator. This translation practice report firstly introduces the background and significance of the translation task, and then describes the translation process and difficulties in translation. On the basis of the framework of “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”,the translator made analysis of difficulties and descriptions of solutions, and finally summarized the translation practice, including translation experiences and the problems to be solved. In this translation practice, the translator has mainly gained two points: firstly, the translation should be faithful to the source text, but it also should conform to Chinese expression habits with flexible uses of translation methods;secondly, the translation of religious text requires the translator to consult relevant materials, which can facilitate the translator to translate what the author wants to express more accurately.
