Popular science films & television play an important part in science popularization and science communication.Both the popularization and communication of science in China has undergone a tortuous, yet on-going process. It has become a strategic consensus to vigorously promote the cause of science popularization and improve the public’s scientific quality. With the development of science and technology as well as the media, it has become a vital way to popularize and communicate science by means of films and television programs.As the most developed country, US takes a leading role in science communication over the world. Serving as a powerful weapon for communicating science, popular science films & television constitute an essential part of American culture industry.This dissertation first defines such major notions as science popularization, science communication, popular science films & television, then explores the function of popular science films&television. It aims to study the history, current situations and future development of popular science films & television in China and US respectively.
