| This translation project report was commissioned by the Popular Science Department of China Machine Press to translate the 66,000 words in English into Chinese for publication,in order to promote popular science through the Marvel film upsurge.After submitting the trial translation,the translator was trusted by the press because the translation met the requirements,and a translation contract was signed finally.After four months of translation,review and revision,the whole book has been translated into 130,000 Chinese words and was formally published for sale in December 2019.This report is guided by German Skopos Theory and uses case analysis method to analyze the problems encountered during the translation,such as how to translate Marvel Universe terminology,Marvel Universe style sentences,humor,and problems in the application of CAT tool.It is found that:(1)the special terminology of the Marvel Universe have formed a set of conventional usages in Chinese.(2)Paronomastic Sentences,Sentences with Long Elements,Long and Difficult Sentences in the book can be translated by analyzing the structure and background culture,with the help of Skopos Theory.(3)to achieve the fidelity to the humor style in the source text for the most,literal translation method shall be used,(4)the problems in using Transmate can be solved by applying the correct document processing sequence,evaluating the effect on pre-translation quality by breaking sentence of source text,and the effect on the quality of pre-translation of the memory matching ratio threshold.This report aims at facilitating popular culture and popular science translation of similar themes to Marvel movies,and providing reference for popular science translation in the future by analyzing specific cases,summarizing the proprietary terminology in the Marvel culture,summarizing practical methods and strategies in popular science translation,and experience in using Transmate. |
