Currently, there are 55 ethnic groups in China.Most ethnic minorities live in sparsely populated areas where vast natural lands are still present.For example,the Oroqen,Ewenki,and Mongolia grass land,the Uyghur,Kazakh people live in Xinjiang,the Tibetan lives in Tibet plateau,the Bai,Dai,Hani live in the mountain regions in Southwest,and the li lives in Hainan Island.Due to the strong influence of tradition and religion culture,industrialization is not yet common in their life.As the consequence,many cultural treasures,like artistic traditional clothing,decoration,jewelries,household items and building architecture are well preserved.Artists from outside world have been fascinated by the essence of these traditions since ancient time.Large amount of paintings emerged over the time.It is not unusual to find many classical master pieces among them.Three primary research aspects were discussed in this article: first, the research of general phenomenon with the macro historical background at shallow level; second, the research of individual phenomenon with the micro periodical background at the shallow level; third, the research of modern development of arts on Chinese minority topics beneath the shallow levels.The research of modern development of arts on Chinese minority topics beneath the shallow levels is a methodology in which the primary research focuses on the most prominent topics such as innovative development of portrait arts on minority people from Tibetan, Uygur, and Miao ethnic groups, with supplemental research on general development of western minorities, on fine art exhibitions, shows, and contests in which western minority arts are frequently awarded. The research is in an effort to discuss the modern changes in the minority regions, the still existing asymmetric status of art developments, via the utilization of a number of statistics, the combination of the author’s personal observations, and the illustration with raw images and texts.
