A Type Research On Borrowed Chinese Characters In Writing Systems Of Chinese Minority Nationalities

Based on the study of existing writing systems of Chinese minority nationalities, namely Shui Character,Nv Character,Bamboo Character,Geba Character and Sawndip(the ancient Zhuang Character) etc.,this thesis develops a theory on the types of the ways by which minority nationalities borrowed Chinese characters from Han nationality.This thesis also gives a deep discussion on the influencing factors which lead to different types of borrowed Chinese characters.Major conclusions are as follows:â… .As far as the character form and structure is concerned,the borrowed Chinese characters in character systems of minority nationalities can be divided into two major types:directly-borrowed Chinese characters and reconstructed Chinese characters.â…¡.As far as the borrowing method is concerned,the directly-borrowed Chinese characters can be divided into five types:1.borrowed on the basis of meaning;2. borrowed on the basis of both meaning and pronunciation;3.borrowed on the basis of pronunciation;4.borrowed on the basis of character form;5.borrowed as a signal character.â…¢.The reconstructed Chinese characters in the character system of minority nationalities can be discussed in two levels:stroke and component.The imitation on stroke level represents a special method of Chinese-character-reconstructing.The reconstructed Chinese characters can be discussed and categorized by Chinese character-structural theory which is discovered by Mrs.Wangning.â…£.Character form variation that does not lead to new minority nationalities characters is an independent kind of attributes of borrowed Chinese characters. Character form variation can be divided in to four types:1.to add or delete strokes;2.to deform the strokes;3.to change the direction of characters or components.4.to change the character style.â…¤.The major influencing factors on the types of borrowed Chinese characters in minority nationalities includes:the different sources of characters,the property of the character systems,the language,the religions,the character inventors,etc..
