The Chu style of recent unearthed funerary epitaph represent the rely on style of stone sculpture in Northern Dynasty, closed to its early works. The Sui style mix the signature of both Northern and Southern, showing more influenced by the Southern Dynasty. Meanwhile the Ou style’s funerary epitaph is very near the classic Ou’s work despite several flaws, showing the great influence of Ou’s style. In the period between Gaozong to Wuhou (650-713), the Early Tang New style represented by Chu Suiliang is emerging and gaining importance. The regular script of unearthed funerary epitaph of Tang dynasty since the establishment of PRC in this period can be classified by 4 groups. The second one is showing more influenced by Chu’s new and beautif style, lacks of its primitive simplicity. The third one is showing the primal style of Prime and Middle Tang Dynasty, implicating the Prime Tang is coming. The last one isn’t following the fashion, either maintaining the folk style or influenced by the style of Sutra. Generally speaking, the formal two are mainstream, coincide with the status of regular script at this time.Xuanzong and Su, Dai, De period (713-805), based on the changes inside the Chu style, developing by Yan Zhenqing and Xu Hao, new style of regular script is firmly established. The regular script of unearthed funerary epitaph of Tang dynasty since the establishment of PRC in this period in both quantity and quality are at climax status, also classified as four group. Inside, the unearthed funerary epitaphs writed by Xu Jiaozhi and Xu Hao show us the grave significance in the study of the calligraphy style of their family and the relevance and change between Xu Hao’s early and mid-term style.
