A Research On The Thoughts Of "Global Conscience"

The Club of Rome, established in 1960s in Rome, the Capital of Italy, is an unofficial organization engaging in international academic research. It creates the first researches on global problems threatening human existence and contributes a great deal in awakening people’s awareness of ecological environment protection, awareness of globe, overall and cooperation and motivating people’s sense of social responsibility. It is also regarded as the first international social group which aims to solve the“world problematique’”that humanity is now facing in the era of globalization.As an international non-governmental and ideology beyond and academic group, the Club of Rome has gathered a group of world-renowned sociologist, political scientists, economists, philosophers and so on. They focused on the core purpose of the Club of Rome and has done a lot of fruitful work, which mainly les in a series of reports, from the first 1972 report "The Limits to Growth: a report for the Club of Rome’s project on the predicament of mankind " to the newest report "Factor five, transforming the global economy through 80% improvements in resources productivity " published in 2009. In the course of its 40 years’development, the Club of Rome has never given up its study on researching "Mankind Predicament”problems and seeking "World Resolutique", and has made worldwide praise of the glory.Its constantly changeable academic perspective consists of political, ecological, economic, cultural, social and human and other fields and elements and also a series of very enlightening, and even the shocked theories and ideas, which is considered as the basic reference in studying and solving the“mankind predicament”problems of contemporary international community.What the Club has done couldn’t be irreplaceable by any organizations, individuals and countries. In particular, the Club of Rome has contributed to the outside world a lot of valuable knowledge and ideas which is of forward-looking vision and human moral concern, such as sustainable development, globalism and the idea of carrying out“Humanitarian revolution”and improving the living quality of mankind. Although the Club of Rome has also experienced ups and downs confusions of transition or death in the course of development, luckily it sticks to the present and shows an increasingly energetic and positive attitude to the world as the pioneer and leader of doing research on”Mankind Predicament”problems. So, no doubt that it is the duty to scholars in the study of International Relations and Global Issues to give research of Club’s thoughts and analyze its impact on the contemporary theories and practices of international relations. Only by carrying out such kind of academic research could human society move forward better and healthier. This paper attempts to conduct a comprehensive, systematic study and explore the contemporary influence and significance of its thoughts.The first chapter is“The Introduction”. The main task of this part is to put forward the question studied and to establish the approaches of the analysis work. The content includes current research situations and the academic history reviews, research significance, research approach and main points of innovations. Chapter II from Chapter V has elaborated its thoughts on development, science and technology, humanity, ecology, socio-cultural and international affairs on the basis of analyzing all the reports. Chapter VI analyzes the characteristics of the thoughts of Club of Rome and its academic contribution to the study of global issues. Chapter VII analyzes the Club of Rome’s contemporary influence and practical significance, with particular emphasis on analyzing the influence of the thoughts and values such as globalism, global ethics, global consciousness that the Club respected and advocated to the progress and transformation of contemporary international relations. Besides, the paper also discusses the enlightenment of the Club’s thoughts to China which is getting a closer and closer contact with the international community and giving increasingly larger impact on the world.
