A Study On The State Relations Between Russia And Ukraine

The relationships between Russia and Ukraine is a special one since the two countries boast a shared history of about 300 years which gave way to a close political, cultural and economic connection as well as the present intermarriage and cohabitation situation.The Russia-Ukraine relationship is also an important one since its tendency will exert a significant influence on the future of the Coallation of Independent States, the formation and development of the geopolitical structure of post-war Europe and the world.After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the strategic geopolitical boundaries of Russia have been greatly narrowed and the geopolitical conditions deterioriated. To maintain its due influence over CIS memener states has become Russia’s bottom line. Due to its special geopolitical position, Ukraine turns to be the key link of this bottom line. Keeping Ukraine in the Coalition of Independent States and making Ukraine its sphere of influence is a consistent polcy of Russia, and if not, Russia wishes to maintain at least an independent Ukraine that does not oppose Russia. While as far as Ukraine is concerned, returning to Europe is all along its optional choice and joining EU is the most feasible way to fulfill its return, while a well-balanced relationship with Russia serves to be an important factor. Maintaining a friendly relatioship between the two nations is of the best interests of both Ukraine and Russia , hence the key note of the development of mutual relations.Ukraine doesn’t have the necessary conditions to form coaliation with Russia, while the chances are slim that Ukraine falls apart and some regions are incorporated to Russia. There will be a tendency that the special elements in the relationships between the two nations are decreasing.By adopting relevant theories and analytical methods of international politics, international relations and sociology, this paper is intended to make a systematic study of the historical and current development of the relations between the two countries, and reach a scientific and objecitve prediction of its future development based on a thorough analysis on its influential factors concerning geopoltics, geoeconomy, geoculture and georelations .
