A Study Of Russian-French Relations Since The Ukraine Crisis

After the end of the cold war,the world pattern is then under the leadership of the western world led by the United States,the United States is the only superpower,and its allies are dependent on its support in security and other aspects.Therefore,most of their diplomatic strategies follow the United States and the principle of "political correctness",and the European Union is no exception.There are many EU Member States,due to the political integration,their foreign policies are basically unified.Due to the differences in economic development level and national status,countries play different roles in the EU.This paper holds that France is a special country,as the oldest ally of the United States,France has almost never met the United States on the battlefield.However,since President De Gaulle,France has begun to oppose the United States,actively approach the Soviet Union and maintain special relations with it.After that,France has been keeping balance between the United States and the Soviet Union(Russia)in search of its own independence.The Ukraine crisis in 2014 is an important turning point.Russia-France relations and Russia-Europe relations on the right track have fallen to the bottom,the European security pattern has changed,the West has jointly launched sanctions against Russia,and Russia's diplomacy has fallen into isolation.However,after the cold war,as the successor of the Soviet Union,Russia's diplomatic focus has been in the west,and its goal is to integrate into the western world.Even in the "sanctions war",Russia has not given up its efforts to ease relations with the West.Driven by the world political,economic and trade,energy,security situation and a series of trump government policies,Russia and France are close to each other,resume some traditional relations,and maintain a special relationship in the overall cold period of Russian Western relations.For Russia,it has taken an extremely important step on the road of breaking the Western sanctions.For France,it is conducive to maintaining a balance between the United States and Russia and to playing its role as an independent power.However,since August 2020,bilateral relations have encountered challenges again.
