A Study Of Russian-American Relations In The Context Of The Ukraine Crisis

Russia US relations have always been a group of very important bilateral relations in international relations.Because of its extremely important strategic position,Ukraine has always been the focus of attention of Russia and the United States.After the Ukraine crisis broke out in late 2013,Russia and the United States paid close attention to the development of the situation of the Ukrainian authorities,and both sides directly or indirectly intervened in it,resulting in the rapid deterioration of Russia US relations.On March 16,2014,Crimea held a referendum on whether to join Russia.According to the results of the Crimea referendum,Russia completed the integration of Crimea.Western countries denied the result of the referendum,considered it illegal,and began to impose severe sanctions on Russia in many fields.The crisis in Ukraine is still going on,and local conflicts continue.In order to get rid of the predicament,Russia began to adjust its foreign policy,accelerate the "eastward" strategy,and strive to get rid of the passive situation of being isolated by the western world after the Ukraine crisis.The Ukraine crisis is an important turning point in the bilateral relations between Russia and the United States and the two sides have launched a fierce game and contention in this region.This paper holds that although Russia and the United States struggle fiercely,their contradictions and conflicts are still limited within controllable scope under the international background of economic globalization and political multi-polarization.In order to cope with the isolation and repression of the West and improve the surrounding international environment,Russia began to accelerate the "eastward" strategy,actively strengthen the political and economic cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries,expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific region,so as to ease the geopolitical pressure in Europe.Due to the structural contradictions and the lack of strategic mutual trust in the Russia-US relationship,the bilateral relationship is still in fluctuation and there are certain uncertainties.Future detente between Russia and the United States may face a series of obstacles,but limited cooperation remains in areas of common interests.
