This research has analyzed the factors affecting political participation of rural residents.The theorital analysis showed that the level of political participation is affected by Household Characteristics, Village Characteristics, Candidate Characteristics, and the Social Capital. Empirical analysis supported this conclusion on the whole.The significance of this paper is that the higher of the level of political participation of rural residents, the quicker progress of the grass-roots democracy construction, and the faster of the rural development. On the one hand, democratic election was the key basis of the grass-roots democracy constuction. The residents of the village were the participation subject of grass-roots democracies constuction, their political participation related to the success or failure of the grass-roots democracy constuction. On the other hand, the grass-roots democracy construction could promote the development of the village economy. Firstly, the cost and the performance of political participation of rural residents could affect the resource allocation and the social result of economic policy; Secondly, the political participation could strengthen the government on the propulsion economic policy, because the economic growth and the vitality of the society were inseparable, speaking from this meaning, the political participation had an positive effect on the economic efficiency. Strengthening the political participation and the village grass-roots democracy construction could dissolve the various antinomy of village society, guarantee proper rights of farmer, ease the unreasonable burden of the farmer, and promote the economic development of village.On the foundation of the definition of related concept and literature review, the chapter3hackled the history origin and institutional change of political participation of rural residents. The process was also a dynamic instituion change process that institutions affected economic basis and political participation. The history origin was based on the land ownership. The economic basis affected the process of political participation of rural residents through the land ownership, no matter the change of social institutions and legal environment.On the foundation of hackling the history origin and institutional change of political participation of rural residents, Now, the higher of the level of political participation of rural residents, the quicker progress of the grass-roots democracy construction, and the faster of the rural development of village economy, then what were the factors afftecing political participation of rural residents? The chapter4analysized the political participation of rural residents from the view of economics, mainly including some factors affecting the cost and the income of the political participation of rural residents. The institutional vote was the main channel, so the village committee election acted as a main research object. The research set the objective function of the household, resolved the main factors affecting the maximizing utility of the political participation of rural residents at the constraint condition. The research of this chapter also made the foundation of the further analysis. The analysis discovered that the level of political participation is affected by Household Characteristics, Village Characteristics, Candidate Characteristics, and the Social Capital:â‘ Household Characteristics:Party Members, Village Cadres, Age of Householder, Education Level, Village Enterprises, Non-Agricultural Employment;â‘¡Village Characteristics: Subsidy of Missed Working Time, Public Service, Satisfaction of the Work by Village Cadres, Bygone Disputes;â‘¢andidate Characteristics:Intensity of Election Campaign, Candidate Characteristics, Standard of Election Campaign, Nomination of Candidate, Canvass Behavior, Intervention of Government;â‘£Social Capital:Participation of Economic Organization, Posses Cadres.; The participation and the Enthusiasm of the political participation could not avoid the influence of the above-mentioned parameters in different degree.The fifth and sixth part of this paper used the investigation data of rural households in30villages of5counties in Nanjing, adopted the order Probit model, verified from the Household Characteristics, Village Characteristics, Candidate Characteristics, and got the direction and the strength of the factors. The results showed:â‘ Party Members and Village Enterprises had an significantly positive effect on the Practical Enthusiasm and Willingness of Political Participation;â‘¡Bygone Disputes had an significantly positive effect on the Practical Enthusiasm and Willingness of Political Participation;â‘¢Standard of Election Campaign, Candidate Characteristics and Intervention of Government had an significantly positive effect on the Practical Enthusiasm and Willingness of Political Participation;â‘£The Social Capital had no significant influence on the Practical Enthusiasm and Willingness of Political Participation.Finally on the foundation of the above-mentioned research, the paper gave some correspond policy suggestions.
