Families are cells of society and basic organizational form of human social lives. The happiness, stability and harmony of families are of fundimental impotance to social stability and harmony. Family ethics corrdinate the relation between family members and that between neighbors; it’s the important guarantee of family harmony and stability, an major part of personal morality, as well as a significant mark of socialist cultural and ideological progress. Currently, China is experiencing a period of intense social transformations, while many causes have made many achievements, family ethics have been attacked with moral regulate and control mechanism reduced, moral concepts confused and morality often abandoned. These newly arised phenomena and problems cast a seriouly impact on the harmony and stability of the sound development of socialist market economy, thus it is of great theoretical and practical importance to carry a research on modern family ethical education.This paper systematically analysizes and discusses the current situation, content, guiding theory and improving countermeasures of ethical education of modern China by taking Maxism historical materialism and relating theories of family ethics as a guidance, drawing on excellent research finding of family ethics both at home and abroad, and synthetically adopting literature, systematic research and combination of theory and practice. Specifically speaking, this paper consists of an introduction part and five chapters.The introduction part mainly elaborates the motivation, significance and main content of this paper, the reserching status both at home and abroad, as well as the researching methods adopted.Chapter One "The Meaning, Function and Features of Family Ethical Education". This chapter states some basic concerns of family ethics, focusing on concepts, functions and features. The concepts, which reflect facts and reveal essential qualities of objects, form the foundation of this paper. Functions are inner basis of the value of an object, while features being its outer expressions. So this chapter forms an knowledge basis of current research.Chapter Two "The Current Situation of Family Ethical Education of Modern China". This chapter explains the start point and moral reality faced of the research. Family ethics may experience changes to reflect social econimical relationship, so discussions about it should be purposeful instead of acting blindly. This chapter analysizes the achievements of family ethical education of modern China, and then elaborates the existing problems and opportunities of it.Chapter Three "Theoretical Guidance of Family Ethical Education of Modern China". This chapter provides theoretical basis for the paper from four aspects. Some theories should be adopted in modern family ethical education, such as Maxism historical materialism, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and especially the ’Three Representatives"of Jiang Zemiing,"Implementary Outline of Civil Moral Construction", socialist core value system. As we know, a large number of researches have been conducted about family ethics, with numerous findings and various points of view and methodologies adopted. Yet all theoretical researches and practical education cannot abandon theoretical guidance, for it serves as the principle and standpoint.Chapter Four "Basic Content of Family Ethical Education of Modern China". The specific content of family ethical education varies with societies and periods. This chapter elborates in detail the core ideas of modern family ethics, according to the basic requirements and rules of civil ethical construction stated in "Implementary Outline of Civil Moral Construction". Chapter Five "Improvement and Countermeasures of Modern Family Ethical Education". This chapter concludes the practical value and findings of this chapter, and idscusses relevant countermeasures from following three aspects. First, expand chanels of family ethical education, forming a optimum situation with various chanels; second, improve the basic methods of family ethical education so as to enforce the educational effects; last, draw on the positive findings of family ethical education. In this way, this chapter tries to discuss modern family ethical education from a broad theoretical background, explores the excellent fruits and time values of Chinese traditional family ethics from both vertical and horizental perspectives, as well as the advanced ideas and methods of western countries. From the perspective of this subject, this chapter puts forward the importance of drawing on relevant disciplines, and reflects on this issue from both disciplines of psychology and family sociology.
