the paper focuses on the Mongol-Oirad Chaajifthe Mongola-Oirat Code/Law), which was written in the mid-seventeenth century. It consists of introduction, chapter one (number and people in the Law), chapter two (terms in the Law), chapter three (study on phrases in customary law), chapter four(law culture and traditions of Mongols, a few questions about the study of the Law),conclusion and appendix.The introduction part, after presenting the significance of the topic, research methods, gives readers an overview of the study on the Law and background of legislating. Chapter one, firstly with its focuses on numbers in the Law, explains the core meaning of Fines in Nines, Threes, Fives and Sevens (different rules of livestock fines). Then, the chapter focuses on people in the Law, discusses the ranking principles of different social classes and different titles for monks and laymen. With detailed explanations, the second chapter classifies terms in the Law into five groups, namely, special terms, legislation terms, penalty terms, malpractice terms, and compensation terms. Chapter three, based on the theories of customary law and18special phrases in the Law, gives a cultural elaboration on the related articles. Taking Eye(meeting), Khuruldai (meeting) and Chuglaan (meeting) as examples, chapter four briefly discusses about law culture and traditions of Mongols, which is then followed by an analysis of the legal relations between taboos, admonishments, religious disciplines and customary law.Finally, the conclusion part summarizes the main idea of the essay and also clarifies a few issues that worth further study.
