In universities, career education is regarded as the important method which concerns on the promotion of reasonable, adequate graduate employment and the improvement of university students’sustainable development of work life. Career education as a comprehensive pedagogical activity which intends to improve individual’s career originated in America. From the beginning of 20th century , Frank Parson raised the“person and job match”vocational guidance idea until now, the history of career education concept’s formation and development has been over hundred years in the America. In 1950s, Donald E. Super put forward career development theory, under its influence many career guidance theories emerged in America which established the theoretical foundation of career education. In 1970s Sydney Maran raised the concept of career education that leaded to the eruption of educational reform across the America which establish realistic basis of career education. Since the 1970s, with the transition of economic subject from industrial economy to knowledge economy, knowledge has been the key element to improve economic development in America. Human resource as the main subject of creation, propagation and application of knowledge, which gradually be substitute for the physical resources, natural resource and so on to be the most important resource type in America. At the times of the knowledge-based economy, human resource development became the core strategy to boost the economic development of America. Under the background of human resource development, career education in universities as the efficient path which provide talented person from universities to society, perfect the social service function of higher education, raise the performance of human resource development in universities, received a wider publicity by United States Federal Government, social organizations, institutions of higher learning. Under the basis of retrospecting and combing the evolution course of career education in American university and the relative research of human resource in America, this thesis makes effort to reveal the relationship between the human resource development and career education in American universities, to clarify the theory system, practice system, development trend and characteristics of career education in American universities under the background of human resource development. Providing some suggestions in order to contract the career education system in Chinese universities and improve the current employment of Chinese universities students. This paper mainly could divides into several parts as follows:On the part of the preface is the research background, research significance, literature summary, research method as well as some clarifications of important concepts.The first chapter retrospects and formulates the historical evolution course of career education in American universities included the origin and development course. Lay the foundation for intensive study of career education in American universities under the human resource development.The second chapter discusses the human resource development background of career education in American universities. In knowledge cconomy times, huamn resource development has been the prominent background of education’s improvement and completion in America. So, the exploration of human resource development in America is the precondition of the research of career education in American universities. This chapter first elaborate the theoretical evolution and carry-out ways of human resource development in America, then analyze and discourse the human resource development background of American higher education’s developmental changes, at last, systematically dicuss the human resource development’s appeals to career education in American universities and the responses of American universities’career education to human resource development. Make every effort to explain clearly the human resource development background of career education in American universities.The third chapter explores the theoretical framework of career education in American universities under the background of human resource development. Theoretical framework is foundations of optimizing career education’s carry-out way, systematically structuring career education’s system in American universities. This part expounds career education’s core notion and theoretical framework detailed.The fourth chapter dissertates the main implementing pathways of career education’s notions in American universities. The implementing pathway of career education is the guarantee of putting career education’s notions into practice effectively.
