With the constant growth of university graduates, labor market changing and theurgent needs of high quality staff in business, university graduates’transition from schoolto work has increasingly caused the attention of people. As far as college students’ careerdevelopment concerned, it is important to transfer from school to work smoothly,butscholars study on transition from school to work either from the point of view ofvocational education or from the point of view of the organizational socializationresearch, very few study from university students own psychological perspective. Thus,there is necessity to carry on empirical research on university students’ school to worktransition for the sake of reality and theory.Based on the local university graduates, the study works through the combination ofthe qualitative interview and quantitative research questionnaire. From the perspective ofwork identifying role, the research tries to theoretically analyses and empiricallydemonstrates the inner mechanism of the work role identification to the dimension of thetransition from school to work.This paper firstly reviews the foundation of the roleidentification theory, individual career management theory and from school to worktransition theory related to our study, and classifies and reviews all opinions, makes apreliminary definition and theoretical deduction framework of this study.Secondly, byuse of qualitative interview results of graduation in three years, it divides dimension oftransition from school to work for university graduates and preliminary exploration ofthe inner mechanism based on the content analysis method. According to the theorydeduction and interview results, the study theoretically constructs the path of universitygraduates path of "work role identification-individual career management-from school towork" path. At the same time,considering the effects mechanism of identifying rolefactors on the path, it constructs theoretical model of university graduates’ transitionfrom school to work and puts forward nine group and53research hypothesis based onthe perspective of work role identification.Using1650local university graduatessample,structure equation model and multiple regression analysis data analysismethod,the study verify the theoretical model and assumptions and discusses the results.After the full text of the empirical analysis, this study conclusion is as follows: (1) Through theoretical analysis and exploratory factor analysis method, the paperdivides the scale of transition from school to work into two dimensions, that is, work-education matching and employment satisfaction.They summarizes the characteristics ofthe transition from school to work more fully from different angles.(2)Influencing work role identification of the new entry’s college graduatesincludes two major types of factors, namely environmental factors and individual factors.Among them, the environmental factors can be subdivided into organization careermanagement, school career guidance. Personal factors can be subdivided into humancapital, psychological capital and social capital.(3) Work role identification of university graduates have positive direct effect on thedimension of transition from school to work, with individual career management playingthe partial intermediary role.In addition, work role identification of university graduateshave positive indirect effects on the dimension of transition from school to work,withindividual career management playing the mediating role fully.(4) During the period of school, school career guidance and organization careermanagement has a direct impact on graduates’ individual career management. The humancapital, psychological capital and social capital of university graduates has a directimpact on transition from school to work.In addition, during the period of school, schoolcareer guidance, organization career management, human capital, psychological capitaland social capital of university graduates indirectly realize the transformation fromschool to work through university graduates’ work role identification and individualcareer management.(5) Work role significantly adjusts the relationship of work role identification andindividual career management. In addition, work role significantly adjusts therelationship of work role identification and employment satisfaction.(6) This study selects gender, age, professional etc. six possible control variables andanalyzes their role to work role identification, individual career management andtransition from school to work these three explained and explanation research variablesindividually. Through the independent sample t-test or single factor analysis of variance,factors affecting work role identification includes age factor. Factors affecting individualcareer management includes age, school properties, characteristics of the enterprise, unit scale.Factors affecting transition from schools to work includes professional type, schoolproperties, characteristics of the enterprise, post type, unit scale.Synthesizing the main conclusions of this study, the main innovate points are: fromuniversity graduates work role identity perspective we construct the research frameworkabout the relationship of "university graduates’ work role identity-individual careermanagement-from school to work", enriching and deepening the existing related theoryabout from school to work transition. Testing the scale and measurement about universitygraduates’from school to work transition, analyzing the reliability and validity of the scale,further complementing and enriching the theory of school to work transition. We alsoanalize the effect of university graduates’ work role identity on their transition, it helpsto deepen understanding the role and function of university graduates’ work role identity,broaden the theory about life-span,life-space. At last, we introduce the moderator-workrole salience to explore the mechanism of effect about work role identity of universitygraduates on individual career management, trying for making more clear explanationsabout the transition from school to work of university graduates, being helpful to promotecareer activities of universities, organizations and university graduates smoothly, furtherthe development of university graduates.The main limitation of the study is based on cross-sectional data to test hypotheses,lack of longitudinal study about university graduates’ from school to work transition.Therefore, in the future, we will use the longitudinal data.Tthe research object will beexpanded to other qualification of the students and the introduction of other processvariables.
