Curriculum reform is the key of higher education reform in China. There are about260colleges and universities have basketball course in P.E. major for it is one of main course in this major, and nearly10thousand students are taking this lesson. It undertakes the missions as enhance the students’physique, develop basketball skills, promote lifelong physical activities and accelerate Chinese basketball development.The popularization of higher education and the social need of physical education personnel since21st century have been doubted on the quality of basketball personnel training, which should be ensured by basketball courses, by employing unit, basketball teachers and students. The final contradictory lies in basketball course system of P.E. major for undergraduate. For this reason, this dissertation has tried to find some solution in solving these problems by using research methods like:literature reviewing, investigation, comparison and case study. It researched the basketball curriculum reform of physical education major for undergraduates. The results are as following:1. It has sort out the theory for basketball curriculum reform.it defined basketball courses as that under different professional education goals, it is consisted of course objects, content knowledge and teaching and learning activities, and has the function of education plans for them. The nature of basketball curriculum is educating people through basketball. It has a longer affection, multi-function, goals dependency, practical enforcement and complex content and professional teaching methods.2. Basketball curriculum reform in China can be divided into5periods:transitional and learning period; halting and perplexing period; reorganizing and recovering period; developing and improving period. At present, the core problems are:the qualification of basketball majored students lowered on all aspects; the goal is not consistent with basketball courses in primary and middle schools; the teaching of basketball lacks of vitality; Excellent Course prefers meeting the evaluation standards to building and application etc..3. The goal of basketball tends to converge. The decision-makers is incomplete in set the goal of basketball curriculum. The content of basketball courses tends to pursue tradition, focus on’teaching’, the contradiction between content and the teaching hours. There are14published basketball textbooks since the establishment of People’s Republic Country of China in1949. They are divided into2kinds:physical education college and normal universities. There are some unsatisfactory points in these textbooks: lack of practicability, not interesting, can not meet present needs, not enough intuitional instruction.4. There are3orientations in basketball curriculum:muddling along, changing and adaptation, loyalty and precise. Factors affecting basketball teaching mainly lies in the teachers, students, textbook, teaching methods, and the facilities. Basketball teachers in China are either too young or too old, and they have much work.5. The evaluation of basketball curriculum always adapts goals evaluation and results evaluation. There is a lack of emphasis on the evaluation process.The two institutions of the Capital Institute of Physical Education and Suzhou University Sports Institute National Basketball quality course construction experience give us the following revelation:Basketball course construction should focus on the construction of teachers, the emphasis and attention to the construction of teaching materials, active and effective use of external opportunities, take this chance andmomentum.
