Education is of fundamental importance in the long run and the foundation of education is built on the teachers. The fate of a nation is closely tied to the education and the success of education lies on the shoulders of the teachers. College teachers assume the sacred mission of imparting knowledge, educating people, grooming qualified constructors and reliable successors for the socialism with Chinese characteristics and enhancing the total quality of our nation. Besides their responsibility of preaching, teaching and mentoring, college teachers also bears a duty of serving as the role model for the student. They need to work as the guide of young people and influence their students with their moral fiber, their strength of their character, their style and their elegance. With the continuous deepening of the Reform and Opening in China and the acceleration of economic globalization, the heterogeneous cultures blend and crush while the values of multi orientations emerge unceasingly, causing a deep transformation in people’s mentality concerning their way of production, their lifestyle, their consuming habits and even their value orientation. The ideological and political education for college teachers is facing a new era with many new questions. From the strategic perspective for the great rejuvenation of our nation, the Party and the government have taken in consideration the new changes in domestic and international situation, to put forwards new hopes for high education when new tasks and new demands are handed to college teachers. The enforcement of ideological and political education for teachers in high education thus the improvement of ideological and political qualities of teachers help to bring about the formation of a teaching team of high morality and excellent professional work, which is correctly structured and highly active. This is not only to meet the practical need of education reform and the strengthening of quality for high education, but also the requirement of completion of building a well-off society and of the construction for the socialism of Chinese characteristics.The research insists on the viewpoint and methods of Marxism and tends to clarify the related connotation and important meaning of the enforcement of ideological and political education for college teachers in the new era. It reviews the historical development of ideological and political education for college teachers since the foundation of popular China and summarizes the developmental experiences. With an analysis of existing problems and related causes in today’s ideological and political education, the research aims to discuss the realistic strategies to enhance and improve ideological and political education with a hope of contribution to the construction of the teaching team in high education.The essay consists of the introduction, a four-chapter text and the conclusion.The introduction:is to expound the expression of thesis and the meaning of research. It aims to explain the research status and to present the idea and the methods in the research as the emphasis and the difficulties and the creativity are also mentioned.Chapter1is about the theoretical analysis of the ideological and political for college teachers and its significance. The ideological and political education for college teachers is a practical proposition of realistic meaning and a theoretical thesis with academic connotation. With a series of basic features rising about, this topic contains a deep inherency and the related research is expanded on a stable theoretical basis. Based on the newest development of domestic and international situation, the Party and the government have given out new demands to the educators. The research on the ideological and political education is thus to meet the need of the construction of teaching team in high education and meanwhile of an importance for satisfying the necessary requirement to improve the quality of high education and for deepening the ideological and political education.Chapter2is to present the developmental process of ideological and political education for college teachers since the foundation of the People’s Republic and to summarize related experiences. Since the foundation of the People’s Republic, the ideological and political education develops in quests and creates by inheritance, through an epical experience marked mainly by four phases in which it started with a Hard Exploration, and then suffered from a Serious Reverse; after Returned from Chaos, it went on the ways of Enforcement and Improvement. The history serves as a mirror for today and the necessary review of the process of development is in need to help strengthening the ideological and political education for college teachers at the present time.Chapter3is about the existing problems in the education and an analysis into the causes. Since1949, the ideological and political education is in a stable development when the institutions and regulations are in perfection and a series of practical methods have been taken out. The achievements are encouraging for the ideological and political situation of college teachers is in good condition and work morals are well respected. However, due to the negative influences from the society, the weak links in college institutions and the lack of individual ethics, problems still exist in today’s ideological and political education as the attentions from colleges are sometimes in omission with the teaching method stuck in frigidity, a combination of theory and reality is still to improve and some teachers commit the symptom of anomies in teaching.Chapter4focuses on the strategic thought of strengthening and improving the ideological and political education for college teachers. Learning from the history and based on the reality, the research points out that the ideological and political education for college teachers needs a clear goal, which includes the correct political orientation, the sublime belief, the high-standard ethics and the high qualified professional skills. It combines the party spirit with the scientific methods when the reality is closely researched based on the theories. It insists on the principal of coordination between the ethic level and professional skills and focuses on the connection of ideological issues and concrete topics. With the emphasis on the education of Party’s policies concerning education, the core values of socialism, the faith and the professional ethics, a wide range of teaching measures, such as the exploration of political theory education, the systemization of organization meeting of Party and League organization, the practical inspections and the utilization of internets, has been taken into place when the institutionalization in the system of administration, cooperation and performance appraisal is in stable process, which work together to make sure of a leap in the conception and the actual affect of ideological and political education for college teachers.Conclusion:Based on the previous research, the existing shortcomings are presented and a future direction is pointed.
