Research On Cultural Welfare Development Of Senior Citizens In Shalang Bai People Communities Of Kunming Under Urbanization

The unbalanced cultural and economic development of modern urbanization has caused risks of inadequate traditional welfare supply, anomie of family ethics, social alienation and sense of loss, and has impacted the realization of a happy old age with the sense of dignity and meaning; therefore, how culture mattering to a happy later life and how cultural welfare of senior citizens being developed have become vital issues encountered during the urbanization with harmonious economic, social and cultural development.The thesis takes Shalang Bai People Community at the suburb of Kunming as an instance to present current situation and old age welfare challenges confronted during urbanization, combines analyses on psychosocial development tasks of individuals entering old age, establishes the theoretical framework of cultural welfare, demonstrates theoretical significance and practical basis of developing cultural welfare of senior citizens against the background of urbanization, and explores the way to assist senior citizens in order to achieve the development goal of cultural welfare by innovating the welfare system.The thesis consists of seven parts. The first part is for introduction. This part states the research origin and significance at the very beginning, then looks back and reviews research status, presents the theoretical basis, and explains the research thinking, approaches and process. With the framework of social welfare system, Chapter One expounds the core concept-cultural welfare, analyzes its connotation, denotation, function and objectives, and builds a framework for analyzing field investigation. Taking the history and status quo of Shalang Bai People Community as well as urbanization as a background, Chapter Two reveals cultural welfare development basis of senior citizens by analyzing these citizens’ satisfaction of material needs and existing problems in the development of their welfare during urbanization. Chapter Three describes the structure and the function of senior citizens’ cultural welfare in detail so as to explore cultural resources beneficial to the welfare development. Chapter Four elaborates on the positive significance of developing senior citizens’ cultural welfare for solving their welfare predicament of communities under transformation and for tackling pressure resulting from aging population, explores practical strategies for developing senior citizens’ cultural welfare in Shalang Bai People Community basing on the research idea of introducing professional cultural service and integrating local cultural resources, then analyzes factors hampering cultural welfare development of senior citizens. Chapter Five explores the approach for cultural welfare construction of senior citizens in Shalang Bai People Community from three perspectives, namely, the construction of cultural places and facilities for the elderly, the construction of cultural welfare supplying system, and the governance on cultural welfare of senior citizens, which features with multiple complementary supplying subjects. The last part is for Conclusion and Limitations, which summarizes the research and relevant theoretical responses, and foresees research prospect basing on limitation analysis.The thesis holds that to stimulate cultural welfare development of senior citizens with system innovation is a possible approach for covering resource shortage of senior welfare in minority communities in the course of urbanization, for enhancing senior citizens’ faith of living and sense of meaning to meet their spiritual and cultural needs more effectively, and for helping the senior to adapt to cultural transformation against the background of urbanization so as to further their welfare and to boost their happiness in old age. Cultural welfare development should be the important content of welfare policies for senior citizens.
