A Study Of Risk And Its Management Of Large-Scale Sports Event

Stemming from field competitions,large-scale sports event has developed rapidly since 1980s and become a comprehensive social activity which has significant influence,especially in economy sense,and contains not only sports but also cultural activities and entertainments. Undoubtedly,large-scale sports event has become an important accelerator in the economy growth of the host cities.People may face unpredictable risks after they bid for host of the large-scale sports event,especially in today’ s volatile political and economical environment.Risks go along with the whole process of large-scale sports event.Contemporary Olympic Games has a history of 110 years since its birth in 1896.During these 110 years,due to such reasons as war,political and economic events,it was interrupted once,abandoned by host cities twice,and cancelled for 3 times.In this thesis,the author conducted a careful investigation into the development of large-scale sports event,analyzed the social,economic, physical,rivalrous and other relative features of the event,uncovered the essential relationships between these features and event risks,gave a theoretical illustration of large-scale sports event risk management, raised a conception of anti-risk ability of event organizers and disclosed how to build up anti-risk ability.The author takes Olympic Games as examples in analyzing the risk management of large-scale sports event,with emphasis on personal injury, economic risk and political risk.The thesis concluded the BOCOG’ s risk management strategy and process in line with the needs of Beijing Olympics Games.In combination with the characteristics of commercial insurance,the author stated how to use insurance as a tool to manage large-scale sports event risks and proposed relevant measures and advice. The author works as one of key manager of BOCOG risk management division. During his involvement in the preparation of the 29th Olympic Games,the author collected detailed information,data and material,and drawn the conclusions and gave advice on large-scale sports event risk management. The achievements were well-proven in the preparation of Olympic Games, hence instructional to future practices.
