Urban spatial organization and regional spatial structure are spatial carriers supporting urban and regional development. However, with the accelerated transition of social economy, the game between globalization and localization, imbalanced regional development and regional spatial contradiction are intensifying. Some problems restricted regional integration have become progressively more salient, such as over-agglomerated central cities, slow hinterland space development, isomorphism of industry and malign competition, redundant construction of infrastructure, un-fluent factors flow and administrative regional economy. Nowadays,the discussion on the transition of urban spatial organization and regional spatial structure, promoting regional integration and harmonious development have become the significant research in our country’s regional development.This paper indicates that urban corridor is a city-and-town concentrated area, which depends on transportation. As a new type of urban spatial organization and regional spatial structure, it could break the fetter of the administrative jurisdiction, cooperate and coordinate cross-administration regions. In traditional urban corridor research, it emphasizes the importance of transport effect but not spatial organization or structure. Under this circumstance, this paper lays stress on the angle of economic geography, researching on urban corridor’s process, spatial pattern, mechanism of evaluation and function in order to establish a conception and theory framework of corridor, create a new field of regional spatial structure, and perfect the theory system of regional spatial structure.Based on these practical and theoretical demands, this paper analyzes the research topic, conception and feature system of urban corridor systematically. The paper uses Harbin-Dalian urban corridor as an example to articulate the evolution, accessibility and its spatial structure by mathematical and GIS synthetically. Then, it analyzes the formation mechanism in Harbin-Dalian urban corridor systematically, models effect measurement, evaluating function and effect and presenting the optimal programming of its development. Therefore,the full text is divided into five chapters:ChapterⅠis basic theory of urban corridor research. Besides summarizing researches in academic research and demonstration at home and abroad, this paper presents concept and connotation of urban corridor, which based on relevant concepts discrimination. Then, rationale and feature system of urban corridor are formulated, and the latter contents four facets, element, essential feature, function and grade.ChapterⅡrepresents the evolution of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor. Regional transportation and spatial association agglomerated linearly and urban system patterned zonally, these are all instruments for evolution. This paper mainly discusses the process of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor in two angles, the spatiotemporal evolution of connection and urban system in Northeast China.ChapterⅢdescribes the spatial pattern of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor. Based on principal component analysis and GIS spatial analysis, this paper analyzes overall cities’strength pattern and accessibility in Northeast China, then, space range of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor is determined. Taking the spatial elements of urban corridor as basis, this paper discusses spatial structure of this corridor by the means of quantitative and qualitative methods.ChapterⅣresearches on the evolutional mechanism of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor, the core of this paper. Mechanism effects on the evolution can be divided into six parts: physical geography, agglomeration and diffusion, spatial dynamics of spatial structure evolution, transportation infrastructure belt, upgrade of industry structure, institutional innovation and planning guidance.ChapterⅤsuggests the function and optimization of Harbin-Dalian urban corridor. Based on economic relation intensity, urban flow intensity, transport linkage, this paper evaluates the function of urban corridor. Aim at limiting factors to corridor development, the paper analyzes optimization system of urban corridor. In conclusion, implementing strategies are formulated to Harbin-Dalian urban corridor.
