The eastern border area in Northeast China, with its special geographic conditions, used to be marginalized and labeled as a region of problems. However, as the strategy of revitalization of old industrial base being further carried out, this region is drawing more and more attention. Transportation, as a"vanguard"of economic development, is the premise of sustainable development of an area or a country. Accelerating transportation construction in border area in Northeast plays a basic and leading role in improving investment environment, deepening opening up and facilitating development. Transportation infrastructure is an important indicator in evaluating economic development level of a region and studying the relations between transportation and economic development also becomes a hot topic in the field of theory and practice.Start form a research on transportation conditions, the paper studies regional economic development of eastern border area in Northeast China and analyzes current situation and transportation problems in a systematic way. The paper uses principal component analysis (PCA) and selects data from the year 1995 to the year 2008 to build an index construction so as to comment on the relations between transportation infrastructure and economic development in this area and concludes that the development between transportation infrastructure and economic development is imbalanced. Then the paper puts forward the concept of a traffic economic belt in eastern border area in Northeast China to revitalize transportation construction based on this concept. Developing transportation first serves as an opportunity to promote coordinated economic development of the region and strengthen development capability of its own. To explore a development model in line with current traffic infrastructure and economic development along the line means to make full use of the radiation effect of traffic lines and develop traffic lines into traffic economic belt. City clusters should be built based on transportation system. The eastern border area in Northeast China will develop in a compound evolution model of traffic hub-city cluster and transportation lines- traffic economic belt. The construction of"eastern border corridor"will be speeded up by establishing transportation network. The effective traffic economic belt model will further promote comprehensive development and revitalization of eastern border area in Northeast China.
