Research On Strategic Flexibility Of Adaptive Enterprise Based On Chaos

With the advent of a new economic era，there is an increasing possibility ofincalculable changes for the environment in and out of enterprises，as the complexdynamic environment featuring chaos has changed the rules of their survival andcompetition. Traditional strategic management methods with static and linear thinkingare no longer applicable，and some scholars are beginning to reexamine the essence ofthe concept and methods in enterprise strategic management. Considering thatstrategic flexibility has such characteristics as reduction of threat from situationalchange，quick response and flexible utilization of resources，under the background ofincreasingly intensive interaction dynamics of different elements，enterprises shouldpractically cultivate and update all kinds of strategic flexibility elements for thepresent and future，and promote adaptability to chaotic situations through theenhancement of strategic flexibility. This is the starting point and significance of thispaper. The major contents of the paper include the following six parts：The first part conducts an analysis of related concepts in the strategic flexibilityof chaos-based adaptive enterprises，such as the connotation，characteristics andinterrelationship of chaotic theory， adaptive enterprises theory and strategicflexibility theory. It then sets the logical framework of the paper，and lays down thefoundation for following specific analysis.The second part，from the levels of indirect external environment，directexternal environment and internal environment，conducts a systematic analysis of thechaotic factors in the strategic system of adaptive enterprise. It extracts the strategicflexibility elements for adaptive enterprise from the three dimensions of structure，culture and capability，and expounds the relevancy mechanism between“drive-response” chaotic factors and strategic flexibility elements.The third part， with the chaotic synchronization concept， constructs a“drive-response”chaotic synchronization model， and conducts an analysis ofenvironment scanning for chaotic synchronization，information analysis，dynamicmatching，composition and action mechanism of the strategic control module. Itdeduces the chaotic synchronizing process of adaptive enterprise with Lorenz system of equations，describes the chaotic condition of system variables with Lyapunovindex， and presents the matching matrix of chaotic synchronization elements aswell as four elementary strategic flexibility modes for adaptive enterprise.The fourth part，in coping with the optimal decision-making for strategicflexibility under chaos，combines the analytic hierarchy process，entropy technologyand grey correlation analysis，and puts forward a grey relevancy chaotic decisionmodel with combined empowerment of hierarchy-entropy，providing scientificapproaches for the examination and evaluation of the effect of strategic flexibility.The fifth part，from the perspective of management and control， expounds theimplementation，maintenance and enhancement of strategic flexibility for adaptiveenterprise under the chaotic environment. Then，using the matching models ofrequirement flexibility and actual flexibility，requirement flexibility and potentialflexibility，it describes the evolutionary process of strategic flexibility for adaptiveenterprise.The sixth part conducts an empirical research on the relationship betweenenterprise strategic flexibility and enterprise performance under the chaoticconcussion environment. It verifies and analyzes the theoretical framework throughprojection pursuit method and multiple linear regression model. The empiricalanalysis demonstrates that with the intensified chaotic concussion， businessperformance of enterprise can be effectively promoted through the enhancement ofstrategic flexibility of structure，culture and capability.Using chaotic science and management science for reference，this paper adoptsthe approach of combining theoretical and empirical analysis， explores thegeneration and enhancement mechanism and route of strategic flexibility foradaptive enterprise under chaotic environment，enriches and expands the methodsand perspective in such area，and provides a favorable reference for the strategicformulation，decision-making and implementation for enterprises.
