Express logistics is experiencing a quick increase nowadays. Private enterprises take a principal part in the industry of express logistics, and the operational management of private express logistic enterprises is a notable research field. Service design determines the long-term development of service operations, and false service design will bring huge obstacle to the service operations. The optimization objectives of service operational management are diversified, and such a multi-objective problem requires the enhancement of entire performance. As a result, the research on the operational design and performance evaluation to private express logistic enterprises is of great academic value. The dissertation focuses on three problems. The first one is the location selection of private express logistic enterprises in urban areas. The second one is the cooperation between private express logistic enterprises and China Post in rural areas. The third one is the performance evaluation of express logistic systems. To solve the three problems, the dissertation is organized as six chapters. Chapter1is tne introductive part where the background, the content, the academic value and the structure are presented. Chapter2provides the basic theory and literature review. The theory and approaches in the next sections are introduced here, and a general picture of research on express logistics is provided. Chapter3is about the location section of distribution centers. The location section is regarded as a multi-attribute decision-making problem and stochastic multiobjective acceptability analysis (SMAA) is used to solve the multi-attribute decision-making problem. Chapter4studies the cooperation between a private express logistic enterprise and China Post. The competition in attracting business and the cooperation in delivering parcels are considered. We design a suitable contract to advance the cooperation, and provide a solution on profit allocation. Chapter5is about the performance evaluation of private express logistic enterprises. We regard the express logistic system as a two-stage parallel-series system consisting of three subsystems including the business attracting subsystem, the network construction subsystem and the delivering subsystem. We also take the interaction of subsystems and the difference of decision priority into account. The last chapter summarizes all the work of this dissertation. The conclusions and future directions are also provided.(1) The dissertation takes the covered population, the service quality and the logistic cost as the evaluation indices in the location section of distribution centers. The dissertation uses SMAA to obtain the probability of a candidate to be determined as the best candidate by assuming the weights of the indices distribute uniformly. The proposed decision-making procedure obviates the difficulty in determining the weights of the indices.(2) The dissertation analyzes the cooperation between a private express logistic enterprise and China Post as well as the effect of the cooperation on the demand. For China Post, the cooperation reduces the customers but increases the profit. The transfer of the customers helps more customers to obtain better service and enhance the utility. Besides, a result of the cooperation is that the private express logistic enterprise will transfer all business of rural areas to China Post.(3) The performance evlauting model has higher discriminating power in seeking improvement potential than CCR model. The improvement of entire performance depends on the betterment of the performance of all subsystems and the coordination among subsystems.
