With the rapid development of economic globalization and technology, timely releasethe new products for customer satisfaction has become an important means of enterprisecompetition. New product development (NPD) efficiency has been become one of the mostimportant factor on NPD management. Increasingly complex of NPD so that it needs multiplefields, and much subject knowledge. Individual enterprise or individual is difficult to have allthe knowledge required for new product development. New product development is a processof knowledge innovation that includes knowledge acquisition and application. Promote NPDefficiency, is no longer just around the improvement of work processes, more need toexamine from the Angle of knowledge acquisition.In the early, the research to improve the performance of new product development regardscross-functional integration as an effective management measures. A large number ofempirical studies, no matter from the whole concept of cross-functional integration, or from asingle or multiple cross-functional integration according to the specific form of all reveals thecross-functional integration to new product development performance has a significantpositive influence. Some researches regard information quality as its internal mechanism. Thereseaches mainly focuses on the enterprise internal functions, less involved in externalorganizations that should be brought into the new product development management also.More rare studies include the primary forms of cross-functional integration together into NPDmanagement research. Moreover, the view of information quality fails to highlight the role ofknowledge in developing new products. In addition, the study found that the enterpriseimplementation of the five major cross-functional integration influences on new productdevelopment is not the same. Why? Combining enterprise knowledge theory, organizationallearning theory and management practice, this paper argues that cross-functional integration isbetween internal function integration, but also contains the integration with externalorganizations. Enterprises through the implementation of cross-functional integration impacton new product development, not quality of information, but enterprise access to the internaland external knowledge. The essence of enterprise implementation of cross-functionalintegration is to obtain the integration of internal and external knowledge. Based on the knowledge perspective study also found that external knowledge acquisition has a significantpositive influence on NPD. But it seems to be broad, still failed to reveal enterprise gainingknowledge about what is needed in new product development, and how to get it. Combinerelated researches of cross-functional integration and knowledge acquisition, Following issuesare still worth be explored:(1) What knowledges are needed to obtained for NPD?(2) Doprimary forms of cross-functional integration all have significant impact on knowledgeacquisition what new product development needs?(3) To obtain the knowledge needed forNPD, whether all have significantly influence on efficiency of NPD? To discuss thesequestions has great guiding significance to the theory and practice of NPD management.In order to study on above questions, this paper is on the basis of literature research andcase study to clear about the concrete connotation of cross-functional integration, andcombined with the literature research and enterprise practice, defines the three kinds ofknowledge that new product development need. According to the literature research, casestudies, and then puts forward the research assumptions and the studying framework, uses theempirical analysis method to varify hypothesis. Finally carries on the thorough discussion andanalysis on the results. As to data collection, this paper adopts the questionnaire investigationmethod, in the pearl river delta region,278questionnaires issued,172recycling, and158valid questionnaires. Valid questionnaires rate is56.8%. In data processing, mainly ueses thefactor analysis, structural equation model and the hypothesis is tested empirically.This study differs with past researches: one is the new product development efficiency asdependent variable, to avoid multilayered factors of the NPD performance index, orinnovative performance index, to make the research more focused; Secondly, it is to furtherdeepen the knowledge acquisition, subdivided three categories of knowledge what NPD needs,is closer to the NPD practices; Thirdly, this paper is from the perspective of knowledgeacquisition, discusses the five kinds of main forms of cross-functional integration influenceson the the knowledge acquisition what are needed to develop new products, and then affectsthe efficiency of NPD. Based on the above studies, this paper gets the following conclusion:(1) CFI is a multidemisition concept including interaction, collation and coordination(2) Three kinds of knowledge are needed by NPD: Functional knowledge, ConstructKnowledge and Process Knowledge (3) Acquise three kinds of knowledges what NPD needed has significant influenceson NPD efficiency.(4) The influences of five CFI forms on knowledge acquisition that NPD needs aredifferent, it gaves the clue why differences happened between five CFIs forms onNPD(5) CFI contributes to NPD efficiency through acquisition of three kinds ofknowledge that NPD need...
