China has been into the transformation stage of overall and interactivedevelopment of urban and rural areas since2000for that the Urban and rural economyhas been increasing, rural investment has been enhancing, industrial structure of urbanand rural areas has been upgrading and the tendency of space restructuring of urbanand rural areas is obvious. The level of interaction between urban and rural areas andthe condition of coordinating urban and rural development are various in differentregions. In the national system, the central cities’ condition of implementation ofoverall development of urban and rural areas is most sufficient.Central cities can befist to achieve coordinative development of urban-rural area. This is due to the highlevel of its economy, the rapid growth of its space scale, the obvious tendency ofspread of urban function, fast development of economy of peripheral rural regions, theits transformation from point to region and stepping in urban and rural areas’developmental stage of metropolitan region. However, the process of urban-rural overall development is very slow in Chinesecentral cities. The handy extension such as pie result in nibbling a large of peripheralfarmland, depriving farmers’ right of land use and right to survival, farmers"urbanization", a large number of land-lost farmers becoming the city poor. Theexpansion mode of large city has greatly restricted to play a stimulating effect onperipheral population and industry from central city. It generates that rural resources, space and development opportunities are robbed by urban. These problems reflect thatthe expansion policy of big cities is understanding deviation to strategy of urban-ruraloverall development, especially, the practice of urban-rural development is a lack oftheoretical research. In the period of the rapid advance of urbanization of our country, we not only facethe problems of economic growth and industrial structure upgrade, social classcontradictions and the rural population transformation, but also need pay closeattention to big differences of various regions including urban-rural developmentstage, factor endowment, state of development, problems and constraints.Consequently, the present paper takes the central cities as samples, mainly focuses oneconomic growth and urbanization. It takes the center and periphery area of city as thespatial scale, utilizes panel data to build a series of analyze models by multivariate regression analysis, establishes urban and rural relation model of central city, dividesurban and rural relationship types of the regional central cities in our country. Thepresent paper is divided into seven parts.Chapter one analyzes and refers the basic theory research of the evolution ofrelationship between urban and rural areas in center cities. This part is comb summaryto urban and rural spatial structure theory (Garden cities, Satellite cities, mu citiesorganic evacuation), the integration of urban and rural area and development theory(Mumford’s concept of urban and rural areas, Mackey’s integration of urban and ruralareas), Lewis’ urban and rural dual economic theory and Muir’s urban and rural dualgeography structure theory, in order to laid the foundation for the following specificresearch.Chapter two analyzes regional background of relationship evolution of centralcities’ urban and rural area in our country from three dimensions including the rapidadvance of new industrialization and urbanization, the contradiction of urban-ruraldual structure and coordinating urban-rural development and the reconstruction ofregional space feature. And it mainly discusses central cities undertake strategicposition of development of new industrialization and urbanization, balancingurban-rural development in the transformation period.Chapter three takes four municipalities directly under the central government and15deputy provincial cities as sample and from2000to2010as the research time. Itcollects some data included investment, economy, industry, population, urbanization, public facilities and so on and establishes panel data ser about urban-rural relationship.Through the analysis of the model, I summarize the features of urban-ruralrelationship evolution in the central cities in the transformation period.Chapter four studies the cases about spatial features of relationship evolution ofurban and rural area, based on quantitative analysis of above. Compared with Chapterthree, it mainly analyzes spatial pattern of urban-rural relationship evolution in thecentral cities from four aspects including upgrading of service function and expansionof radiation space, manufacturing suburbanization and group formation peripheralurban, spatial expansion and functional reinforcement of regional vice center, functional transformation and concentrated development of country.Chapter five divides evolution types of urban-rural relationship and analyzes themechanism of evolution of urban-rural relationship in all kinds of areas. It is based onregional analysis of urban-rural relationship elements. It considers regional functionof different central cities and evolution tendency of urban-rural industrial structure and observes space transportation relations and diversity of powerful factors ofurban-rural relationship evolution. It is as consistency of location and resourceenvironment, consistency of characteristics and dynamic mechanism of urban-ruralrelationship, consistency of spatial relations of center and periphery.Chapter six discusses driving mechanism of overall development of urban-ruralrelationship of central cities from four aspects including elimination of "big citydisease" of central cities, external dependencies of rural development, thefundamental solution of urban-rural dual structure and urban-rural integration andupgrading of central cities’ function.Chapter seven comes up with the way about industry functional configuration, space layout of population and settlements, construction of transportation, publicservices and infrastructure and regulation of ecological space, based on preamblesystematic research.
